Hi all my name is dottie im new on here .
Just had to share my news !!!!!!
my severum babys hatched whoopee.

This is the second time (the parents ate the first brood }
MUM laid her eggs on a rock which she and the dad fanned and patroled for a day
or so .

Mum then decided to move them all to another rock .They were there for a day
before she decided she had found the most perfect nest for them .

.So both parents once again sucked the eggs into their mouths a few at a time
till all the eggs were blown out and all safely tucked inside an old pop sock
tied around a plant with stones to weigh it down.

They have now hatched and the parents are busily rounding all the tiny escapees
up in their mouths and spitting them back into the nest.
Whoe betide if any of the other tank members come too near .They are immediately
sent packing lol.
Its so amazing to watch my grandkids are loving it all .
Ive bred mollies and guppies etc before but the severums are a joy to watch as
they fuss around looking after their family .

Unfortunately, I no longer keep fish and rarely have the time to
administer the group. I suppose this is one of the hazards of having 5
children!!!!

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody here would be interested in taking
over the running of the group.

Hi georgina, great news about the new tank :-) OK first off, you may well find
that you do not have to clean the filter quite so frequently as before,
obviously the between-clean periods will depend on the tank population. The best
guide I can give you is to keep an eye on the output, once this drops
significantly then it's time to go mad, read the instructions and clean the
filter, remember though NEVER clean filter media in tap water, always use tank
water, and in my opinion, try not to be too thorough, clean it enough so that
the flow is restored.  Without knowing the specifics I can only give general
guidelines, just take your time, and for the sake of your carpets make sure that
you don't disconnect anything without first isolating the pipework!! You don't
need the tank syphoning itself all over the shop lol.
Something else you may or may not have come across is, assuming you are using
one, the build up of algae and sludge in the spray-bar, usually as the spray-bar
is mounted high up near to the lights algae loves to grow in it and will block
the holes quite effectively, so, before you think your filter is in dire need of
a clean, check this first, you might find that the output has in fact been
reduced because of this. And of course, check the pickup pipe too, a powerful
filter will pull in any large detritus (bits of dead leaf, flakes of bog-wood)
and the end of the pickup pipe can become clogged.
Anyway, all pretty much common sense really, hope this helps.

Hi Georgina.
   I know exactly what you're going through with the plecs,i bought 2 from my
local retailer which were only about 2" long, now they are nearly 12" long,they
quickly outgrew my 24x12x12 tank but luckily i had a Trigon 180l tank to
transfer them to,i hope you can resolve your plec dilemma very soon as they are
a fascinating fish,ugly but still fascinating to watch.

hi guys, haven't been here for a while since I've had a stress-free
tank for a while.....

anyhows i went to my local aquatic center the other day and was asking
about whether it was cruel to keep my 20cm plec in the 2 foot tank.
the guy said that i either ought to give him away or buy a bigger tank.

is my current tank definitely too small for him?
will he outgrow a bigger tank (i dont want to end up with a 6 foot tank!)

i really couldnt bear to give him away as i love him so much, i'd be
devastated, and i'm happy to get a bigger tank, i just need a second
or third opinion please!
