This is a group for members of Pirate re-enactment societies in and around the United Kingdom (Let us not forget our continental brethren and the opportunities for plunder...er! ... joys of foreign travel.).and for members of other groups who are interested in participating in pirate themed enactments either as civilians, from travelling nobility to dockside dregs, or as the forces of law and order (spit!!), Navy, military, customs men etc.
The main aim of this group is to foster communication and co-operation between independent British Pirate enactment groups so that we can all gain the benefits the larger shows that this will bring, and share our collected knowledge of this subject.
From a historical perspective the re-enactment of pirates can be loosely divided into three historical periods (four if you count Hollywood/Howard Pyle)
1. Privateers - 16th century.
2. Buccaneers - Late 17th century.
3. Golden Age - 18th Century.
Anyone participating in re-enactment in any of the above periods or who feels that they have something to contribute is welcome.
Footpads Vagabonds Slatterns and Highwaymen are also welcome.
