[UK Reptiles] Re: Questions

Its always a good idea to know what your doing before you acquire an
animal to prevent doing harm!

First Axolotls don't like heat so temp 72deg f. or under,
Second PH of the water should be neutral, they can tolerate a little
alkaline but not acid.
Filter - any pump filter will do preferably sized to the capacity of
your tank.
Feed - bloodworms, earthworms, canned crickets or mealworms, pinkie
mice as a treat to adults only as amphibians cannot tolerate too much
fat in their systems. Feeding pinkies will shorten their life span
You do not need to use tongues as axolotls have a very good sense of
smell, make sure you remove any un eaten food the next day.
Sex - the males have the swelling and are generally slimmer. Females
are more pot bellied with a smaller swelling. They will live in
groups so sex does not matter unless your breeding, and hatchlings
are nearly impossible to raise.

should be a small bulge at the base of the tail, if its pinkish i
think its a boy and if its paleish i think its a girl (but that could
be the other way around). They eat normal earthworms and i wouldn't
bother with a filter if i were you, mine has lived in not very clean
water for nearly 4 years and is still going strong i just clean it
out every couple months or so.
