This came to me from the US:
Why has the United States government disregarded global consensus on climate
change for so long? Why doesn't the public know that we fail to require any
testing for more than 95% of the chemicals currently in commerce? As science has
been manipulated to ease public anxieties and protect powerful industry groups,
we have lost our ability to protect ourselves. Protect our familes from the
misuse of science.
Good science uses the "scientific method" and peer reviews for a reason - to
ensure that we come as close to the unbiased truth as we can. Yet, 60 of the
world's most influential scientists agree that we are currently facing an
unprecedented, systematic distortion of scientific facts designed to meet the
Bush Administration's political goals on issues ranging from military
intelligence to health to the environment and more. We are keeping the public
dangerously ignorant and unable to make informed decisions.
These scientists are so outraged, they signed a letter condemning the
Administration's current
policies which have included:
** deliberately stacking advisory panels with political appointees
** censoring and disregarding government scientists and reports when they
conflict with the administration's political goals
** disbanding scientific panels whose advice conflicted with Bush administration
policies.
Help maintain public trust in sound science and its implementation in public
policy. Urge your representatives to insist that congressional science
committees investigate.
