Quotes For Peace Activists:
The Untaught Syllabus 3.
In Their Own Words: Britain's History Of Supporting Dictators And Trading WMD
With Enemies: Business As Usual - The Economic And Political Components.

By Brian Mitchell.

The material for this article is taken from three of my books: "1917 And All
That: The Untaught History Syllabus. In their Own Words - A Political History Of
The Cold War 1917-1983." which has also been serialised in British and foreign
journals; and "A Radical Book Of Enlightenment For The Common Man." which is a
compilation of over 1,700 radical political quotes in subject categories; and
"Understanding The Hidden Nature Of Capitalism. - Or Marx For Beginners."
including Marx's full exposure of the capitalist economic system.

Why place such a heavy emphasis on quotes?

Quotes have a veracity of their own, either somebody said something or they
didn't. And if enough people, with similar interests and motives and enough
power concentrated in their hands, say much the same thing, then it is more
likely that their interests will prevail.

I have found through tutoring, speaking engagements, publishing, debating,
campaigning and general argument that it is more effective and revealing,
especially to the incredulous, that quotes, speaking for themselves without
polemical intervention from me - other than selection, editing and assembly -
have an immediate impact and influence on the credulity of the reader. And yes,
it is extremely biased. But when did the ridiculous, idealistic and illogical
academic or journalistic notions of being 'balanced' or 'unbiased' ever equate
with veracity or reality?

I challenge those who preach a so-called 'balanced' view to come up with an
equally biased negation of what is being said.

I am happy for this article to be reproduced and distributed in full provided
that authorship is acknowledged, or as quotations provided that the full
authorship of each quote is stated; and that the work is used for the purpose
for which it is obviously intended - to inform and educate those interested in
the modern history of wars, peace, anti-racism, poverty, imperialism, global
trade and exploitation and the world debt crisis; in other words, humanity in
this incredibly rich and abundant world.

"During these months of the "phoney war" British Government departments issued
licences for the re-export of spruce from Britain to the Caprioni firm in Italy.
We were short of spruce ourselves. we could have made Mosquito bombers'
wing-spars from it. The Italians did make Caprioni wing-spars from it. And less
than a year after the issue of these licences, some Caprionis were bombing
London!"

(Tom Wintringham (Gracchus) "Your M.P.")

Just as in present times, in the lead up to and even throughout the Second World
War, and in wars ever since, it is business as usual between transnational
capital and dictators.

WHY DOES TRANSNATIONAL CAPITAL SUPPORT, FINANCE AND ARM DICTATORS?

If Hitler had merely been racist and planned only to destroy the Jews,
internationational capital would not have invested a penny in the Nazis.

No, it was not Hitler's racism that they funded. What capital, including Jewish
capital, invested in was Hitler's promise to destroy the rising power of the
working class - not only in Germany, but all of Europe, and essentially its
embodiment in the Soviet Union.

"It was conspicuous that no government in the capitalist world quivered with
apprehension when this new power (Fascism) arrived. The world's conservatives
hailed it with glee, and there was not a Tory who, as he nodded approval of the
Hitler and Mussolini method of dealing with the "labour problem", did not feel
confident that in the bargain-basement of diplomacy, he could make a deal with
the new anti-Bolshevik champion."

(British historian J.T.Murphy.)

"From the very moment Hitler came to power, and destroyed the labour movement in
Germany, the National Government [of Britain B.M.] has been the main power which
has helped Hitler by every political and financial means."

(British labour leader Harry Pollitt, 1938.)

"In their systematic destruction of all opposing groups, Hitler and Mussolini
had the communists first on their list. Among the early opponents of fascism,
the communists were in the forefront."

(From US Army bulletin "Army Talk." March 1945.)

"The vision that stands before my eyes was of far higher value to me from the
very beginning. I wished to be the destroyer of Marxism. I will achieve this
task."

(Adolf Hitler, at his trial, 1923.)

"The roots of the Hitlerite movement is the struggle against socialism, in other
words against Marxism."

(Karl Friederick von Siemens, in a lecture to General Electric bosses, Oct 27
1931.)

"If the National Socialist Party collapses, there will be another 10 million
Communists in Germany."

(Adolf Hitler, to his financial backers, 1932.)

"We shall not only exterpate this plague. We shall tear the word "Marxism" out
of every book. In fifty years time no one in Germany is to know what that word
means."

(Goering, March 19 1933.)

"We have broken the international solidarity of the proletariat; in its place we
must build up the living, national solidarity of the German people."

(Adolf Hitler, 1933.)

"It is one of the foremost aims of the NSDAP [Hitler's National Socialist German
Workers' Party B.M.] to overcome and destroy the Marxist world outlook, and to
liquidate its chief exponents."

(Hitler's chief Nazi ideologist Alfred Rosenberg.)

"During this period the fear of Communism... was the great British bogey.
Germany, under Hitler, with its early programme of vigorous opposition to
Communism, was looked on as a bulwark against the spread of the doctrine
throughout Europe."

(John F. Kennedy "Why England Slept.")

"I consider the danger from the left far exceeds the danger from the right, and
in the event of a new outbreak of communism in Germany, these organisations
[fascist B.M.] would powerfully serve the cause of order."

(British Ambassador in Berlin Lord D'Abernon, in his diary, Nov 1920.)

"I feel that if the Nazi regime in Germany is destroyed then the country will go
Communist."

(Lord Astor, in a letter to Winston Churchill.)

"If the Powers succeeded in overthrowing Nazism in Germany, what would follow?
Not a Conservative, Socialist or Liberal regime, but extreme Communism. Surely
that could not be their objective? A Communist Germany would be infinitely more
formidable than a Communist Russia."

(Lloyd George, in a speech at Barmouth, quoted in The Times Sept 23 1933.)

"In a very short time, perhaps in a year, perhaps in two, the Conservative
elements in this country will be looking to Germany as the bulwark against
Communism in Europe. She is planted right in the centre of Europe, and if her
defence breaks down against the Communists. and if Germany is seized by the
Communists, Europe will follow; because the Germans would make the best job of
it that any country could. Do not let us be in a hurry to condemn Germany. We
should be welcoming Germany as a friend."

(Lloyd George, House of Commons, Nov 28 1934.)

"If we were to isolate Germany and therefore prove to the German people that
Herr Hitler had failed them... eventually they will discard him and seek another
God... There is only one, the anti-Christ of Communism."

(Sir Thomas Moore MP, Sunday Dispatch, Oct 22 1933.)

"...the acute danger from Bolshevism that threatens Europe... The extension of
Bolshevism throughout Europe remains the fixed determination of Russia. It is
extraordinary that so many people in this country do not appear to be alive to
the dire peril that exists. .Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini are the direct
outcome of Bolshevism, and there can be no doubt that had it not been for them,
Bolshevism would be devastating the greater part of Europe today."

(Sir Robert Gower, The Times July 31 1936.)

"I was at a loss to understand why we could not make common ground in some form
or other with Germany in opposition to Communism."

(Lord Londonderry, 1938.)

"The [Conservative B.M.] leaders... became extremely alarmed at the prospect of
the spread of the ideology of communism... to Great Britain itself. They were,
therefore, prepared to do almost anything to build up protection for British
capitalism and imperialism against the spread of this, to them, dangerous
disease, which had already gained a considerable hold amongst the British
working class... To fight this ideology must mean hostility to Russia...
throughout this period the major factor in European politics was the successive
utilisation by Great Britain... of various fascist governments to check the
power and danger and the rise of communism or socialism."

(Sir Stafford Cripps, Feb 1940.)

In the period before the Second World War, Fascism had many friends in British
big business and among the members of the Anglo-German Fellowship and The Link
and among the notorious Clivedon set. Many were close friends and allies of the
German Ambassador von Ribbentrop, who later became Hitler's foreign Minister (He
was executed at the end of the war by the Nuremberg military tribunal as a Nazi
war criminal). They also included British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain,
Governor of the Bank of England Sir Montague Norman - who was involved in
putting separate peace feelers to the the Nazis via President of the Reichsbank
Hjalmar Schacht (who was also imprisoned at the end of the war in Nuremberg for
war crimes), Home Secretary Sir Samuel Hoare, British Ambassador in Germany Sir
Nevile Henderson, Lord and Lady Astor (Marquis of Londonderry, owner of the
Observer, Secretary for Air 1931-35, owner of the Clivedon estate in Berkshire -
where the Munich deal was planned), J.J.Astor, Chairman of The Times, Winston
Churchill, the Duke of Hamilton (it was the Duke of Hamilton's estate on which
Hitler's deputy Rudolf Hess landed during the war in 1941 in order to try and
conclude an alliance between Britain and Germany against the USSR), Foreign
Secretary Lord Halifax, Chancellor of the Exchequer Sir John Simon, the Windsors
and other members of the Royal family.

"In 1938, Nazi diplomat Fritz Wiedemann appointed the American millionaire
industrial systems inventor, Charles Bedaux, as head of IG commercial operations
on behalf of The Fraternity in Europe. Bedaux had supplied industrial systems of
time and motion study to IG, ITT, Standard Oil, General Motors, Ford, Sterling
Products, and other Fraternity members. He had introduced brutal methods of
production that brought about frequent strikes in the 1930s..."

(Charles Higham, in "Trading With the Enemy.")

Bedaux involved the Windsors, who were sympathetic to Hitler's New Order in
Europe, in the Fraternity's plans and arranged for them to meet Hitler and tour
Nazi Germany:

"In the summer of 1937, according to MI-6 files in the Ministry of Defence,
London, Bedaux met with the Duke of Windsor, Bedaux's close friend Errol Flynn
[American actor B.M.], Rudolf Hess, and Martin Bormann [leading Nazis B.M.] in a
secret encounter at the Hotel Meurice in Paris. At the meeting the Duke promised
to help Hess contact the Duke of Hamilton, who had a direct link with Himmler
and Kurt von Schroeder to the Schroeder Bank and the Worms Bank through their
common membership in Frank Buckman's Moral Rearmament Movement. Hess was
determined to insure an alliance with Great Britain...; efforts were made by
Hess to meet with Hamilton on several further occasions, which finally led to
Hess's dramatic landing on the Hamilton estate in 1941."

(Charles Higham, in "Trading With the Enemy.")

"...it was reported that the Duke of Windsor entered into an agreement which in
substance was to the effect that if Germany was victorious in the war, Hermann
Goering through his control of the army would overthrow Hitler and would
thereafter install the Duke of Windsor as the King of England."

(J.Edgar Hoover, head of American FBI, in a memo to Roosevelt's secretary, May 3
1941.)

The Windsors were sent out of harm's way to a British outpost in the Bahamas in
1940. There they met with top Nazis and with US Mafia bosses such as Meyer
Lansky. One was Goering's friend the Nazi banker and founder of the Electrolux
company Wenner Gren, who was investing massive South American finance in
Hitler's armaments.

"Pre-war movies had pictured the goose-stepping nazis as the absolute masters of
Germany. Hitler had only to command and the most powerful of the pre-nazi
potentates would snap to obey - or else. Our poking about in the Villa Hugel and
questioning of Alfred Krupp and his works managers erased that impression. Adolf
Hitler and his party had never been allowed quite to forget that they had
depended upon the industrialists to put them in office."

(James Martin, post-war US military administration section leader in Berlin.)

"It is not true that the big German industrialists joined national socialism at
the last moment... They were its enthusiastic promoters from the very beginning.
Seizure of power by the national socialists was only made possible with the
support of the German heavy industries and high finance. .armament for the war
of aggression was made under direct guidance of the German industrialists."

(From the US Senate Kilgore Committee, Oct 1945.)

"I met the Fuhrer for the first time in 1927... recognising that only the policy
of Adolf Hitler could lead to our goal, I put myself completely at the services
of his movement, beginning with that time... As a result of a pamphlet written
by the Fuhrer which I distributed, several meetings took place between the
Fuhrer and leading personalities from industry in which Adolf Hitler formulated
his ideas in a brief and clear cut form."

(Head of the Rhine-Westphalia Coal Syndicate Emil Kirdorf, in the Preussische
Zeitung, Jan 31 1934.)

"I established the connection between Hitler and the important industrialists...
It is generally known that on 27 January 1932 - a year before he came to power -
Adolf Hitler made a 2½ hour speech in the Industrialists' Club in Dusseldorf.
This speech made a deep impression on the assembled industrialists, and as a
result, a number of substantial donations began to flow from the sources of the
heavy industries into the funds of the NSDAP [National Socialist German Workers'
Party - the Nazi Party B.M.]... In the last years before the seizure of power
the large industrial associations provided funds continuously."

(Fritz Thyssen, in his book "I Paid Hitler", 1941.)

"The Fuhrer had only to take a sheet of paper and jot down his points; the
British Government would be prepared to discuss them."

(Sir Horace Wilson to Herr Wohlthat, July 20 1939.)

"Herr von Ribbentrop asked me whether I could guarantee that the Prime Minister
could carry the country with him in a policy of friendship with Germany. Herr
Hitler asked whether England would be willing to accept an alliance with
Germany."

(British Ambassador to Germany Sir Nevile Henderson, in a note to Viscount
Halifax describing an interview with Hitler, Aug 28 1939.)

"Public opinion is so inflamed... that if these plans of negotiations with
Germany were to become public they would immediately become torpedoed."

(German Ambassador to Britain von Dirksen's message to Berlin, July 24 1939.)

"If anything about them [the negotiations B.M.] were to leak out there would be
a great scandal, and Chamberlain would probably be forced to resign."

(Horace Wilson to German Ambassador to Britain von Dirksen, Aug 3 1939.)

"The British press has... made further progress on the road that leads to
totalitarian servitude... Hitler... fortified by the Munich agreement and by the
scrap of paper which he and the British Prime Minister had signed... placed his
veto on the return to office of three prominent British public men [Eden,
Churchill and Duff Cooper]. When this news was broadcast on the evening of
Sunday, October 9, the whole nation was moved to wrath. Of the depth of this
wrath hardly a hint was given next morning in the leading British newspapers,
some of which were almost apologetic. Inquiry into this humiliating behaviour on
the part of our 'free press' elicited the information that certain large
advertising agents had warned journals for which they provided much revenue that
advertisements would be withheld from them should they play up the international
crisis and cause an alarm that was bad for trade."

(Times editor Wickham Steed, in his book "The Press.")

WHO IN BRITAIN FINANCED THIS DICTATOR?

"With regard to Germany, something had been bound to happen. The people there
had lost everything in the war. While Germany was wonderfully equipped,
scientifically and industrially, she had no working capital, and the prospects
of the young people since the war had been almost nil. Either they were to have
Communism or something else. Hitler had produced Hitlerism as they saw it today,
and of the two he thought it was preferable.

Will the Germans go to war again? I don't think that there is any doubt about
it; and the curious thing is that I am almost persuaded that some day we shall
have to let the Germans arm or we shall have to arm them... One of the present
menaces to peace in Europe today is the totally unarmed condition of Germany."

(Sir Arthur Balfour (Lord Riverdale), Advisor to the Treasury, Chairman and
Managing Director of Arthur Balfour Co. Ltd; Capital Steel Works, Sheffield;
Chairman of High Speed Alloys; in a speech reported in the Sheffield Daily
Telegraph, Oct 24 1933.)

"From 1924 to 1929 a passion amounting almost to mania developed in the City of
London for lending money to Germany."

(Lord Boothby, 1934.)

"Who finances Germany? Without this country as a clearing house for payments and
the ability to draw on credits... Germany could have not have pursued her
plans... Time and again Germany has defaulted on her obligations, public and
private; but she has gone on buying wool, cotton, nickel, rubber and petrol
until her requirements were fulfilled, and the financing has been done directly
or indirectly through London..."

(Stock Exchange Gazette, May 3 1935.)

"We regret to admit that from a small but rather influential circle in the City
of London, there flows a constant stream of propaganda in favour of credits for
Germany. These propagandists say that a loan to Germany would be a twofold
investment. We could buy off German aggression, and by propping up an admittedly
desperate and faithless tyranny we could prevent Germany from falling into
Communism."

(From the City journal "The Banker", Feb 1937.)

"There can be no doubt that practically the whole of the free exchange available
to Germany for the purchase of raw materials was supplied directly and
indirectly by Great Britain. If the day of reckoning ever comes, the liberal
attitude of the British Government in this matter may well be responsible for
the lives of many British soldiers and civilians. War materiel which will
eventually be used against this country could never have been produced but for
the generosity with which Great Britain is giving her enemy free exchange for
the purchase of raw materials."

(British economist Paul Einzig, "World Finance 1938-1939.")

"Huge German orders for rubber and copper were executed in London yesterday
regardless of cost. The buying of nearly 3,000 tons of copper sent the price
rocketing... Already Germany has bought over 10,000 tons this month in London
alone. The London Rubber Exchange enjoyed almost a record turnover owing to a
German order for 4,000 tons. The price shot up... Germany is reported to have
bought 17,000 tons already this month - two months' normal supply."

(News Chronicle Aug 19 1939. - 15 days before war started.)

"Only thirteen days before war was declared; 17,000 tons of rubber, 8,000 tons
of copper, large quantities of tin and lead, and other materials necessary for
armaments were furnished by Britain to Germany."

(British historian Ivor Montagu, in "The Traitor Class.")

"To execute the orders in time, heavy withdrawals were made from stores in the
UK. A third of our stocks of rubber and a quarter of our stocks of nickel have
gone and are now on their way to Germany. All deliveries have to be made by
September 1st. Mr Burgin, Minister of Supply, had the power to ban the deals,
but refused to do so."

(Evening Standard Aug 21 1939.)

NEGOTIATIONS TAKING A TURN FOR THE BETTER - DIVERTING NAZI MILITARY POWER TO THE
USSR

"...out-spoken criticism of Hitler's policy or of the Nazi atrocities against
the Jews would be against the national interest. .such words just at this moment
would do the gravest harm to negotiations then proceeding, as a result of which
things would shortly take a turn for the better."

(Francis Williams, former editor of the Daily Herald.)

"The sturdy young Nazis of Germany are Europe's guardians against the Communist
danger... Germany must have elbow room... The diversion of Germany's reserves of
energies and organising ability into Bolshevik Russia would help to restore the
Russian people to a civilised existence, and perhaps turn the tide of world
trade once more towards prosperity. By the same process Germany's need for
expansion would be satisfied, and that growing menace which at present darkens
the horizon would be removed forever."

(Lord Rothermere, in his Daily Mail, Nov 28 1933.)

"If Germany once again becomes a colonial power, not only will her interests
clash with ours in that field, but she will inevitably be drawn into rivalry
with us as a Naval Power. Surely, then it is the first elementary duty of
British statesmanship to see to it that the great energies, ambitions and
enthusiasms of the new Germany are directed into channels where they will not
clash with the essential interests of Great Britain."

(Churchill's son in law Duncan Sandys, member of the staff of the Foreign
Office, May 2 1935.)

"Unity is essential and the real danger to the world today does not come from
Germany or Italy... but from Russia."

(Sir Arnold Wilson, House of Commons, June 11 1938.)

"I am convinced that neither Germany nor the other fascist powers want to go to
war with the western democracies so long as these democracies do not hamper the
drive of fascism towards the East."

(Ex US President Herbert Hoover, in the New York Herald Tribune, Oct 27 1938.)

"Geographically Germany must occupy the predominating position in relation to
the States of central and south-eastern Europe. I do not see why we should
expect a fundamental change to take place in these regions. Far from this
country being concerned, we have no wish to crowd Germany out of these countries
or to encircle her economically. "

(Chamberlain, House of Commons, Nov 1 1938.)

"I would like to try... to discover in what direction the pressure of German
dynamism can be exercised, to examine if we can still consider this dynamism as
directed exclusively towards the East and to draw some practical conclusions for
our conduct."

(French Ambassador to Berlin Coulondre, to Bonnet, March 19 1939.)

"Leave us our colonial empire and we'll let you have the Ukraine."

(French minister Bonnet to von Ribbentrop.)

"The basic idea was that if Britain would leave Herr Hitler alone in his sphere
(Eastern Europe), he would leave us alone."

(British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, Aug 26 1939.)

"By 1938 I had come to the conclusion that if a war occurred between Germany on
the one side and England and France on the other, it would result in either a
German victory or in a prostrate and devastated Europe. I, therefore, advocated
that England and France... permit Germany to expand Eastward into Russia without
declaring war."

(Lindburgh, to the America First Committee, Oct 30 1941.)

TRADING WITH ENEMIES

In the years before and throughout the Second World War, British and American
business with the Nazis was 'laundered' through subsidiaries of US-German
companies and banks set up through other temporary subsidiaries and mergers to
disguise their German connections, shareholdings, ownerships and directorships.

Ford trucks supplied the German army. General Motors (Opel), and Ford built the
largest percentage of medium and heavy trucks used by the Wehrmacht. Most of the
engines for Ju 88 bombers and the first Me-262 fighters were built at Opel
plants with General Motors capital. Standard Oil supplied the German army in
France with fuel through Switzerland and was refuelling German U-Boats in the
Canary Islands. Standard Oil's Panama registered ships were not touched by the
German U-Boats during this operation. ITT, who in the 1970s brought down
Allende' Socialist government in Chile and imposed the fascist dictator
Pinochet, helped with Hitler's communications, were involved in the rocket bombs
which fell on London, and built Focke Wulf planes. During the Battle of the
Bulge, while American tanks we disabled through shortage of spares such as ball
bearings, American ball bearings were 'laundered' through Latin American
subsidiaries for German heavy armaments with the cooperation of the Vice
Chairman of the US War Production Board.

"On January 6th, 1944, the United States Government indicted the Du Pont and
Imperial Chemical Industries of Britain for forming a cartel with IG-Farben of
Germany and Mitsui of Japan. Other big firms followed suit - for instance
Standard Oil, which under cartel agreement with the German IG-Farben, blocked
commercial development of one hundred octane gasoline in the US and withheld
technical information from Army Air Corps; or Dow Chemical and Aluminium
Corporation of America, which as a result of an arrangement with IG-Farben
restricted the production of aluminium in the US with the effect that in 1940,
one year after the outbreak of the Second World War, while the USA produced
5,680 tons Nazi Germany produced more than 19,000 tons. Most Americans were left
in the dark..."

(Avro Manhattan "The Dollar and the Vatican.")

PROFITING FROM NAZI GENOCIDE - YOU CAN BUY THEIR PRODUCTS TODAY IN ANY HIGH
STREET.

Gold bars made from the wedding rings, spectacle frames and teeth of Nazi death
camp victims were passed through the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in
Basle, Switzerland; a Nazi controlled bank whose President was the American
Thomas H. McKittrick, and whose executive staff were German, British, Japanese,
Italian and American. The BIS Board of Directors list of June 16 1943 included
Walter Funk (Berlin), Govenor of the Bank of England Sir Montague Collet Norman
(London), Kurt von Schroeder (Cologne), and Yoneji Yamamoto (Japan).

Other business was done through the Morgan and Chase National banks and
Rockefeller.

When in March 1938 the Nazis entered Vienna, Austria's gold went to the BIS, and
from the BIS to the Reichbank. In March 1939 the Nazis entered Prague and
demanded that the Czech National Bank hand over Czechoslovakia's $48 million
gold reserves. The Czech directors announced that the gold had already gone to
the BIS for forwarding to the Bank of England. Most of the BIS's dividends were
going to Germany. The British excuse was:

"This country has various rights and interests in the BIS under our
international trust agreements between the various governments. It would not be
in our best interest to sever connections with the bank."

(British Chancellor of the Exchequer Sir Kingsley Wood.)

On May 15 1939 Labour MP George Strauss asked the Prime Minister Neville
Chamberlain: "Is it true, sir, that the national treasure of Czechoslovakia is
being given to Germany?" The Prime Minister, who was a major shareholder in
ICI, partner of IG-Farben, who had members on the board of the BIS, replied:
"It is not." But as was disclosed later, the actual gold did not need to
physically have been moved in order to be transferred to Berlin, but by
adjusting the accounts of the Bank of England's gold deposits in Switzerland and
Czech bank holdings in London.

Many US companies were members of Nazi cartels and trusts, such as the Agfa
Ansco Corporation (maybe you use their film in your camera), the Aluminium
Company of America (maybe you drink from one of their cans), the American
Cynamid Company, Bell and Howell (maybe you've seen a film on one of their
projectors), the Carbide and Carbon Chemical Corporation, the National Aniline
and Chemical Company, the Dow Chemical Company, the Eastman Kodak Company
(perhaps you have one of their cameras), the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company
(matbe their tyres are on your car), and Proctor and Gamble (matbe you use their
soap or cleaning materials).

The company that had cartel arrangements with the largest number of US
companies, which included Standard Oil, Du Pont, and the Ethyl Gasoline
Corporation, was the IG-Farben trust. The massive German IG-Farben chemical
company, which had rich Jewish shareholders, supported Hitler.

"Being so deeply impressed, my Fuhrer, by your achievement of bringing the
Sudetenland home to the Reich the IG-Farben Industry Joint Stock Company puts at
your disposal for use in the Sudeten German area a sum of half a million
Reichsmarks."

(Chairman of IG-Farben Hermann Schmitz. in a letter to Adolf Hitler, Oct 1938.)

IG-Farben was formed before the war by the three German chemical giants Bayer,
Hoechst and Badische Aniline Soda Fabrik (BASF). You can buy their video and
cassette tapes, medicines and pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and plastic and
chemical materials and products in any high street today. These companies
dominated the world chemical industry. IG-Farben was a member of giant
international cartels which included ICI in Britain (maybe your home or office
is decorated with their paints), and Standard Oil (possibly fuelling and
lubricating your car), Du Pont (maybe on your non-stick cooking pans) and Dow
Chemical in the US. With a total value of over £300,000,000, thirteen percent of
whose capital was foreign owned - mainly by Du Pont of the US and ICI of
Britain, IG-Farben was the world's biggest chemical combine, with further
holdings outside Germany amounting to at least another £50,000,000.

IG-Farben created IG-Auschwitz - a massive factory using slave labour from the
Auschwitz concentration camp next door, which as well as making synthetic oil
and rubber, also made the Zyklon gas that murdered millions of Communists,
Socialists, Trade Unionists, anti-Fascists and Jews in the Auschwitz death camp.
Nazi 'doctors' and scientists also experimented using prisoners as guinea pigs.

"Received the order of 150 women. Despite their emaciated condition, they were
found satisfactory... The tests were made. All subjects died. We shall contact
you shortly on the subject of a new load."

(From an IG-Farben company memo on 150 women bought by IG-Farben for $70 each
from Osweicim (Auschwitz).)

HOW THE ORDINARY GERMAN PROFITED

Allow me a description of the scene Red Army soldiers came upon at Maidanek,
where one and a half million had been exterminated:

Carefully sorted for transport to Germany and piled up in large rooms were the
possessions of the victims of Maidanek. In one room marked Herrenschuhe and
another marked Damenschuhe were thousands of pairs of shoes. In another room
were thousands of trunks and suitcases. There was a massive pile of spectacles
and another of toothbrushes and other large piles of combs, hairbrushes, razors,
shaving brushes, pen-knives, pens, pencils, and every other human possession;
all carefully sorted into huge separate piles. In a long corridor were thousands
of women's dresses. Another corridor had thousands of overcoats. One room was
full of children's toys - teddy-bears, dolls, toy cars, jigsaw puzzles.

An office at Maidanek was full of letters and orders from Nazi welfare
organisations in Germany requesting long lists of articles such as kitchen
utensils, clothes, bed linen, shoes, and so on. Sizes were specified. Orders
were for "4,000 German children" or "2,000 children" and requested such things
as "sports shirts, training suits, coats, aprons, gym shoes, skiing boots, warm
trousers, warm underwear, warm gloves, woollen scarves". One letter from a
German woman in Lublin was for "a pram and complete layette for my newborn
baby". One document showed that eighteen railway wagons left Maidanek full of
such welfare gifts for German citizens in the first few months of 1944 alone.

When as a journalist in the GDR, after visiting the Buchenwald concentration
camp, which was kept as much as possible just as it was for visitors and
schoolchildren, I went to the small town of Eisleben just over a little wooded
hill from the camp to interview people who had been of adult age during the time
of the Nazis. Half of them said that they didn't know what was going on over the
hill. Others said of course everybody knew what was going on - with trains full
of people going into Buchenwald and nobody coming out, with truck loads of
people's possessions coming out of the camp, and the unmistakable smell of
burning human flesh when the wind was blowing towards the town, what was
happening was obvious. When I asked why others said they didn't know what was
going on, I was told that such rationalising was their only way of protecting
their sanity, as they had benefited well from Nazism, including welfare gifts of
the clothes and possessions of camp victims.

Buchenwald was a camp specially for communists, socialists, trade unionists,
working class leaders and other anti-Nazi political prisoners from all the
nations of Europe, and was the only concentration camp in which the inmates
organised to overpower the guards and liberated themselves.

REHABILITATING NAZI BUSINESS INTO A US DOMINATED WORLD ECONOMY

"It is our inflexible purpose to destroy German militarism and Nazism... German
economy shall be decentralised, for the purpose of eliminating the present
excessive concentration of economic powers, as exemplified in particular by
cartels, syndicates, trusts and other monopolistic arrangements."

(From the Potsdam Agreement.)

The Soviet delegate to the Foreign Minister's Conference, Paris, 1946 said: "The
forces of fascism in Germany are very far from being eradicated. As you know,
land reform and the liquidation of the big landowners, those former reliable
supporters of Hitler, has only been carried out in the Soviet Occupation Zone,
and has not even been started in the western zones... all those cartels, trusts,
syndicates and so on, on which German fascism relied in preparation for
aggression and waging war, continue to exercise their influence, especially in
the western zones."

"We had not been stopped in Germany by German big business. We had been stopped
in Germany by American big business. The forces that stopped us had operated
from the United States but had not operated in the open. We were not stopped by
a law of Congress, by an Executive Order of the President, or even by a change
of policy approved by the President... in short, whatever it was that had
stopped us was not "the government." But it clearly had command of channels
through which the government normally operates. The relative powerlessness of
governments in the growing economic power is of course not new... national
governments stood on the sidelines while bigger operators arranged the world's
affairs."

(James Martin, in his book "All Honourable Men.")

German subsidiaries of US companies were compensated for damage done by American
bombing to their property. The US Government awarded General Motors $33 million
tax exemption on profits for the US bombing of its motor and aircraft factories
in Germany in the war.

"By some miraculous chance. most of I.G Farben plants were spared during the
war. If one starts with the enormous I.G. Farben headquarters building in
Frankfurt - now the headquarters of Anglo-American occupation authorities - one
would think a magic circle had been drawn around I.G. Farben establishments to
save them from Allied bombers. But it survived without a scratch..."

(Australian journalist Wilfred Burchett, in his book "Cold War In Germany.")

By 1946, 87 percent of IG-Farben's war industries were still intact. IG-Farben
stock rose on the Munich Stock Exchange from 68 percent to 142½ percent.
According to the West German Economic Institute the profits of the three main
enterprises of IG-Farben's amounted to 1,782 Million marks in 1963 alone.

Removal of IG-Farben plant by the Western allies as war reparations was stopped
on orders from the US Government.

BACK INTO THE MILITARY, GOVERNMENT, EDUCATION, LAW AND ORDER - REHABILITATING
THOSE VERY USEFUL NAZI WAR CRIMINALS

"War criminals and those who participated in the planning and execution of Nazi
measures which involved or resulted in cruelties or war crimes shall be arrested
and handed over to the courts. All members of the Nazi party... shall be removed
from public and semi-public office, and from positions of responsibility in
important private enterprises..."

(From the Potsdam Agreement.)

Contrary to the Potsdam agreement, top Nazis who financed and supported Hitler
and the very same men who were responsible for the Nazi war crimes and profited
from the slave labour in the concentration camps - the IG-Farben directors, the
bankers, Abs, Flick, Krupp and other big capitalists - are again the most
powerful people who determine the internal and external policy of West Germany.

Flick, sentenced for war crimes such as exploitation of slave labour, after
1945, apart from becoming general manager of Flick of Dusseldorf and on the
boards of many other companies, became chairman of the board of directors of
Dynamit Aktien Gesellschaft, formerly Alfred Nobel and Company (inventor of
dynamite and founder of the Nobel Peace Prize).

Hermann Abs, who was sentenced as a war criminal but was soon back behind his
desk as boss of the Deutsche Bank, employed by the British and Americans to
rebuild Germany's banking system, also became chairman of the board of directors
of the IG-Farben successor Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik (BASF), vice
president of the Deutsche Bundesbahn, vice chairman of the administrative
council of Kreditbank for Reconstruction, chairman of over 40 boards of various
enterprises, representative of many employers' associations, and is referred to
as Bonn's "uncrowned Minister of Finance."

Dr. Konrad Adenauer, Prime minister of West Germany after the war, protege of
the Vatican, leader of the Rhine Catholics, close friends with the Ruhr
industrialists, sat in the prewar Prussian parliament and prepared the way for
Hitler, was also a director of the Deutsche Bank. Adenauer had been a great
admirer of Mussolini, and after Mussolini's pact with the Vatican he sent
Mussolini a telegram saying that: "The name of Mussolini will be inscribed in
letters of gold in the history of the Catholic Church." It should be noted that
no condemnation of Nazism ever came from the Pope or Vatican.

Theodor Oberlander murdered thousands of Poles and Soviets, especially as part
of the "Nachtigall Battalion" in Byelorussia which in the first days of the war
murdered thousands of communists and intelligentsia in Lvov in June 1940, most
of whom were already on the death lists compiled by the "Institute for German
East Activity." Oberlander's "Bergmann" regiment was responsible for the
suppression of the Warsaw uprising in 1944.

"In any case we must achieve complete Germanisation in the eastern territories.
Measures effecting complete ejection and resettlement may seem to be harsh to
those involved... but severity employed once is better than small scale warfare
carried on for generations... For this reason, along with many others, an
assimilation of the Polish people must be rejected."

(Theodor Oberlander, Neues Bauerntum April-May 1940.)

After the war Oberlander became Adenauer's Minister for Refugees and a CDU
member in the Bundestag.

Nazi Generals and military leaders who proved that international laws and the
laws of humanity mean nothing to them were immediately employed by the US for
their experience in fighting the Soviets and eventually were back in command of
the Bundeswehr with nuclear weapons at their disposal.

Nazi SS man Dr.Rieck became a minister for Marshall Aid. Globke, who wrote the
official Nazi race laws, became Adenauer's personal assistant. Speidel became
Commander of NATO ground forces in Central Europe. And Dutch fascist Joseph Lunz
became head of NATO.

Nazi Field Marshal Kesselring, responsible for air attacks on Britain in 1940;
was on February 1954, as President of the Neo-Nazi "Stalhelm" (steel helmet)
veteran's organisation, presented with a cake with marzipan jet fighters and
iced with the words "To the old eagle" by US Colonel Armstrong at a US airfield
in West Germany.

Hitler's Chief of Staff General Halder and his tank and blitzkrieg expert
General Guderian were employed by the US Army to explain the German Army's
tactics in the Soviet Union.

"A damned scandal that men like Jodl, Doenitz and Raeder should be held as war
criminals. They should be released and working with us, giving us the benefit of
their experiences."

(Allied Colonel of Press Relations, Berlin, 1945.)

Nazi Colonel Johannes Trautloft flew in the German "Condor Legion" which bombed
Republicans in the Spanish Civil War. In his book "As A Fighter Pilot in Spain"
and in his diary he describes the attack on the tiny village of Olalla in Spain,
and his participation in what became known to the world as the "massacre of the
children of Getafe" where 63 children were killed in the bombing of a school:

"Flying low we fire our machine-gun bursts into the enemy... Human beings creep
forth, many stagger, fall, lie still... Certainly nothing can give the soldier
more satisfaction than the sight of the enemy in a confused, panic-stricken
flight... Before flying back to Cacares we drink several glasses of light ale
and then fly home with considerable dash. The work accomplished today is
tremendous "

(Johannes Trautloft, as a German fighter pilot in the Spanish civil war, 1936.)

Trautloft became Commanding General of West Germany's Luftwaffe Group South.
After 1945 he spent his time building neo-fascist military organisations such as
the Association of the Condor Legion where in 1956 he declared: "The
effectiveness of the Condor Legion in Spain must be an example to young people
in Federal Germany."

"For the purpose of transforming the German legal system, all previous members
of the nazi party who took an active part in its activities, and all other
persons who were directly involved in the methods of punishment of the Hitler
regime must be deprived of their office as judges and public prosecutors and may
not be re-admitted to such offices."

(Allied Control Council decree on basis of Potsdam Agreement, Oct 30 1945.)

Judges who sent millions of Europeans to their deaths without even a trial were
back in West Germany's legal system; many of them as defence witnesses in war
crimes trials, giving 'evidence' that Nazi legislation was correct and legal.

Nazi Public Prosecutor Eduard Dreher sent hundreds of thousands of communists,
trade unionists, labour activists, anti-fascists and Jews to their deaths from
the Special Court at Innsbruck. After 1945 he became Ministerial Director in
Bonn's Federal Ministry of Justice.

The Brown Book on War and Nazi Criminals contains thousands of cases of Nazis
that were soon back in their jobs in West Germany. Just a few examples from the
Brown Book are from a list of Nazi judiciaries, doctors, administrators and
others and their positions in West Germany after they had been convicted of war
crimes at Nuremberg: Emil Finnberg: SS Sturmbannfuhrer, and became lawyers in
Hamburg. Dr. Kurt Niesling: SS investigating magistrate and court officer in
Krakow, became a lawyer in Wiesbaden. Dr. Kurt Uhlenbroock: SS Sturmbannfuhrer
and "doctor" in Auschwitz concentration camp, became a physician in Hamburg.
Helmut Bartsch: SS Hauptsturmfuhrer and member of an investigating committee in
Auschwitz, became a police inspector in Krefeld. Joseph Schreieder: SS
Obersturmbannfuhrer and criminal director in occupied Holland, became a senior
Government counsellor in Munich. Gunther Burmeister: SS Standartenfuhrer and
office head of central SS court, became a senior Provincial Court counsellor in
Schleswig. Hans Zentgraf: SS Obersturmbannfuhrer and head of an SS and police
court in Riga, became a lawyer in Aachen. And Willy Osthues: SS
Hauptsturmfuhrer and judge at the SS and police court in Krakow, became a lawyer
in Munich.

"The education system in Germany must be so supervised that fascist and military
doctrines are completely eliminated and a successful development of democratic
ideas is made possible."

(From the Potsdam Agreement.)

In West Germany, Nazi teachers, and professors of Nazi philosophy and ideology
were back lecturing in their universities, colleges and schools. Nazi
historians, publishers, writers and journalists were again churning out the same
naked capitalist race hatred and militarism.

RESISTING THE DE-NAZIFICATION PROGRAM

"Those German officers and men and members of the Nazi party who have been
responsible for, or have taken a consenting part in, the atrocities, massacres
and executions, will be sent back to the countries in which their abominable
deeds were done in order that they may be judged and punished... The three
Allied powers pursue them to the uttermost ends of the Earth and will deliver
them to their accusers in order that justice may be done."

(From the Declaration on German (Nazi) Atrocities, signed by Britain, the US and
the USSR, Oct 30 1943.)

The West made it quite clear that they had no intention of keeping to the
Potsdam treaty :

"I think the Potsdam agreement, for all intents and purposes, should now be
treated as pretty much of a dead letter."

(J.F.Dulles, US Senate Hearings on the European Recovery Plan [Marshall Plan.
B.M.] Jan 1948.)

"In my opinion, international fascism, though defeated in battle, is not dead...
No, fascism is not dead in the United States. On the contrary it is now in the
process of postwar reconversion... The old familiar faces are spouting the old
familiar fascist lies."

(US Assistant Attorney General O. John Rogge, in a memo to the Attorney General,
Feb 28 1946.)

Because of American resistance to the denazification programme, the head of the
US decartelisation authority, Colonel Bernstein resigned in 1945. His deputy,
Russell Nixon said: "...on every step of the hierarchy of the US Military
Government and from one end of the American Zone of Germany to the other,
responsible officers are resisting denazification on the grounds that we must
erect a bulwark against Bolshevism and Russia. It is quite clear that the last
six months in Germany have resulted in the setting aside of the decartelisation
department, which was really serious in its efforts to destroy the economic
concentration of power and which made the Potsdam Agreement the guide to its
actions."

All Nixon was able to do was arrest a few minor Nazis. He wanted to arrest the
leaders of the big Nazi banks and question them about the Austrian and Czech
gold transferred to the Nazis through the BIS at the beginning of the war. US
intelligence was ordered not to make the arrests. When Nixon protested to
Washington the Nazi bankers were taken in; but they were immediately released
and the US Government threatened Nixon with conviction as a "radical". When
Nixon arrested Richard Freudenberg, a major Nazi industrialist who worked with
Goering, the US Ambassador to Germany Robert Murphy ordered his release, saying:
"It is not in conformity with American standards to cut away the basis of
private property."

The British also obstructed Nixon's work. The British Labour Government was in
deep financial crisis and wanted good connections with Germany. The British were
also maintaining IG-Farben. When Nixon complained to Sir Percy Mills of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mills put further obstructions in the way.

Bernstein's replacement, James Martin also resigned in July 1947, saying: "I am
resigning in protest against the machinations of the big American companies in
Germany... These American groups want to set up a Germany controlled by the
monopolies in the heart of Europe."

US General Clay told Martin's successor to: "stop at once all measures to
loosen the monopolies or dissolve the trusts." When the remaining 19 staff at
the department wrote protesting to General Clay, they were sacked.

Thousands of ex-Nazis and Nazi collaborators were brought secretly to Britain
and the US after the war. Many of these were anti-communist 'emigre' Soviets,
so-called dissidents by the West, who had collaborated with the Nazis and
murdered thousands of their own people. Others were Nazi collaborators and
anti-communists from the newly emerged Socialist countries.

It became an obstruction to the Cold War to continue the war crimes prosecutions
of these many thousands of collaborators and Nazis, who are now employed by the
British Secret Services, the CIA, the Pentagon, and British and US chemical and
biological warfare establishments and laboratories and universities. Many Nazi
experimenters from the concentration camps are now heads of Western chemical,
medical and biological institutions, companies, laboratories and government
ministries. British scientists from Porton Down searched occupied Germany for
Nazi scientists in order to gain their information on chemical and biological
warfare. Many were employed at the US chemical and biological warfare
establishment at Fort Detrick, where it has been suggested that AIDS was
engineered and became released.

These Nazis were an 'embarrassment' to the West and were secretly shipped to
Britain and the US and given new identities and citizenship. A US intelligence
document of 1947 in Germany said: "At the present time, there is resident in the
British zone, a Soviet citizen. His presence in the British zone is a source of
embarrassment to the British military government, as the Soviet authorities are
continually asking for his return for trial as a war criminal. And the British
have asked me if it is possible for US intelligence authorities to take him off
their hands and see that he be sent to the US where he can be lost." The Soviet
citizen in question is Professor Nikolai Poppe, wanted as a war criminal by the
USSR and still living happily in the USA.

Klaus Barbie was employed as an MI-6 agent from 1945 to 1947. Auschwitz
'doctor' Valadistov Dering, who 'operated' on teenage Jewish girls became a
doctor in the British colonial service in Somalia and ended up running a highly
profitable Harley Street practice in London and was awarded the Order of the
British Empire.

The British Government's excuse for not following up cases of ex-Nazi war
criminals living in Britain in the 1980s was that it all happened "so long ago."
Such an illegitimate excuse was used only three years after the war had ended,
as a secret Foreign Office note of 1948 shows: "...we are now by stages closing
down the process of handing over war criminals, traitors and collaborators...
the obligations into which we entered must be read in the context of the war.
There is therefore a strong argument for bringing to an end arrangements made in
the wartime atmosphere."

Another memo of 1948 from Commonwealth Relations Secretary Phillip Noel-Baker
says: "In general, no fresh trials should be started after August 31, 1948.
This would particularly effect the cases of alleged war criminals who
subsequently came into our hands... In view of future political developments in
Germany... it is necessary to dispose of the past as soon as possible."

In 1945 and 1946 US Assistant Attorney General O. John Rogge wanted to expose
US-Nazi connections in top busineess, banking, finance and government circles.
Attorney General Tom C. Clarke reluctantly authorised the mission. Rogge
researched at Nuremberg and wrote a report to Attorney General Clarke. Clarke
immediately declared the report a "secret document" and it could not be
publicised. With permission from the US Justice Department, Rogge went on a two
week lecture tour with his findings. On a flight to give a lecture in Seattle,
Washington, his plane encountered "bad weather" and made an unscheduled stop for
"refuelling" at Spokane, where he was told there was "no room" for him on the
rest of the flight. A "stranger" at the airport where his plane made the
"unscheduled" stop handed Rogge an envelope. The stranger said he was from the
FBI, and the letter was Rogge's instant dismissal from his job. This was on
President Truman's orders to Attorney General Clark, who told the press that
Rogge was dismissed for violating "long-standing rules and regulations."

A new and much reduced central registry of war criminals "Final Consolidated
Wanted List" of 1948 ("consolidated" being an esoteric way of circumventing:
"thinned out") stated that previous wanted lists should be destroyed.

"Our policy should henceforth be to draw a sponge across the crimes and horror
of the past... There can be no revival of Europe without the active and loyal
aid of all the German tribes."

(Winston Churchill, House of Commons, 1947.)

Thousands of war crimes cases are still open where the whereabouts of the
criminal is known. The 17 Nazis said to be living in Britain and the 74 in the
US exposed in the British media in 1987 were only a tiny few of the number still
living secretly in Britain and the US and other countries of Western Europe.
There are many thousands more.

"We saved my wife in the war. She was a slave-labourer and Jewish... The
Americans kicked me out of Germany when I objected to the light treatment of
Schacht and others at Nuremberg... I saw how the Americans were re-nazifying
Germany... I tried to get my fiancee to America, but no: ten thousand war
criminals were more welcome."

(James C. Bilotta, Chairman of the American Veteran's Committee in Frankfurt,
London, Sept 20 1986.)

The Americans were now promoting themselves to become the new "master race":

VERY USEFUL GERMAN AND JAPANESE CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL WARFARE EXPERTS

German and Japanese specialists with germ warfare expertise were secreted to the
US and given US citizenship and work on US germ and biological warfare
programmes. Many were employed at the US chemical and biological warfare
establishment at Fort Detrick in Maryland, where it has been suspected that AIDS
could have been engineered.

The staff of Japanese General Ishi Shiro's biological weapons establishment,
which had the misleading title of the Kwantung army "Water Supply and Disease
Prevention Administration", later known as Unit 731, mass murderers and
experimenters on US, British, Soviet and Chinese prisoners of war who were
infected with various plagues and typhus and died horrible deaths at the
Japanese death camp, were given a deal by the US. They were guaranteed immunity
from their war crimes by the commander of US forces in the Pacific General
Douglas McArthur in exchange for the entire documentation of their data and
formulae and technical information. Unit 731 had enough anthrax (400kg) to wipe
out mankind. Unit 731 experimenters were later secreted to the US and employed
in US biological warfare establishments where they developed biological weapons
tested by the US army in Korea and Vietnam.

TESTING THEIR PRODUCTS ON OTHER PEOPLES

Contrary to the Potsdam agreement and the Geneva Convention on chemical warfare,
IG-Farben successor company Farbenfabriken Bayer AG Leverkusen cooperates with
the US military industrial complex in chemical warfare research, experiments and
production. Bayer AG evades these laws by transferring its activities to US
territory under its subsidiary the Chemagro Corporation which supplies the US
military with poisonous gases.

The same transnationals are employing the same Nazi scientists making even more
horrible chemical and biological weapons today. They were involved in these
weapons used by the US against the people of Vietnam. Old Nazi companies such as
Bayer AG, through its US branches such as the Chemagro Corporation in Kansas
City; all dealt in these weapons for use in Indochina by the US Chemical Corps,
who kept the manufacturers informed of the results in order that they might
'improve' their 'products'.

One of the gases used in Vietnam was developed at the Bayer research centre in
West Germany by Dr. Wolfgang Wirth, Dr. Gerhard Schrader and Dr. Otto Ambros -
all of whom were engaged in chemical and biological research for the Nazis.
Schrader developed the Zyklon B gas for the Nazi concentration camps. Wirth
developed the Tabun nerve gas. The Badische Anilin und Soda-Fabrik company -
BASF (see your local high street), through its US subsidiaries and Farbwerke
Hoechst AG (see you local chemist), was also involved in chemical warfare in
Vietnam.

"They [the US. B.M.] have shown great interest in the new and most effective
poison gas which is being developed in West German laboratories on the basis of
the gas used by IG-Farben at the time of the Second World War. The German
military leaders and a number of industrial firms in the Federal Republic are
helping the Americans... in Vietnam... Thus an arrangement was made to send
several experts from the Farbwerke Hoechst AG to the USA and to let the USA have
the necessary technical data and documents for the production of gas with lethal
effects of the Zyklon B type, which the Nazis had used to a great degree in
their concentration camps... and which the Americans have already begun to use
in South Vietnam... According to recommendations of the American-German
Military Strategical Guidance Centre in Treves - which were approved by the
governments of both countries - the most recent data on the production and
employment of chemical and bacteriological weapons are being exchanged..."

(Eastern World, London July-August 1966.)

US scientists, including ex-Nazis recruited by the US after the war,
experimented, devised and tested on Vietnam ever increasingly vicious means of
human destruction - dart bombs, pellet bombs, needle bombs made from specially
developed plastics which cannot be detected by X-ray.

"The Nguyen family's home was hit by a bomb which released thousands of
needle-sharp darts. The darts entered Thi An's sister, Binh and continued to
move around in her body for several days, causing internal injuries from which
she eventually died in agony. The darts were made from a type of plastic which
cannot be detected by X-ray. This type of bomb is made especially for Vietnam."

(John Pilger "The Last Day.")

They also devised and tested on Vietnam bombs which explode at knee level and
cut the legs off anybody within range, all kinds of chemical, gas and biological
warfare, and an 'improved' type of napalm - gasolene, benzine, polystyrene and
phosphorus compounds. It sticks to the skin and is impossible to extinguish or
remove. If you don't die from the burns, you asphyxiate from the heat and smoke
of your own burning body.

Between 1961 and 1971, 72 million litres of concentrated herbicides, of which 42
million litres was Agent Orange (Dioxin) were sprayed over 4.2 million acres of
Southern Vietnam.

These wars are not finished; they never do. This kind of delayed warfare is
today killing and deforming Vietnam's future human economic resources.

Fifteen million gallons of US toxins, in soil no longer protected by tree cover
and root binding through "defoliation", has rendered some forty percent of
Vietnam's cultivatable land poisoned and unusable for decades, and continues
washing down into rice paddy, rivers and coastal waters for many generations.

Rice and fish are Vietnam's primary food sources.

Also thousands of hectares of former agricultural land remain uncultivated
because they are so infested with US anti-personnel bombs, which are killing
farmers and children still today.

The toxic environment in large parts of Vietnam has resulted in an increase of
cancers, miscarriages, stillbirths, and a massive increase in congenital
deformities such as anencephaly (shrunken primitive brain), absence of eyes,
limb and facial deformities, absence of jaws, tongue, internal organs, and many
other minor and major deformaties. Dioxin has also been found to cause
chromosomal aberrations, which means that congenital defects can remain through
generations, possibly lying dormant and reappearing in any number of generations
to come.

For many generations, hundreds of thousands of Vietnam's children will be born
without eyes, arms, legs, or internal organs. Some just cry non-stop from birth
till death, unable to tell the world where Vietnam's pain is. How do you explain
to a child without eyes, arms or lips, with which to see, cuddle up to or kiss
its mother that rich scientists in a far off land under no threat from Vietnam
spend their days inventing the most horrific weapons in order to defend "human
rights" and "freedom" in the world?

Now, large resources continue to have to be spent on the care of hundreds of
thousands of deformed and disabled victims of this delayed-action warfare.

"It [AIDS. B.M.] must have been genetically engineered."

(Dr. Robert Strecker, California, October 1986.)

What of the 'theory' often floated by apologists for the US Chemical and
Biological Warfare establishment that the AIDS virus came from African green
monkeys and is prevalent in parts of Africa? According to Professor Seagal,
Director of the Institute of Biology, Berlin, this was: "Ludicrous and
scientifically incredible." What happened to Professor Seagal?

"Our investigators have revealed that two US Embassy officials made a two-hour
visit to Prof Seagal at his home two weeks ago questioning him about what he
knows, what he thinks, where he got his information, and what he intends doing
with his report."

(Sunday Express Oct 26 1986.)

"One said he was an historian, and the other said he was a political consul. But
I am positive they were from the CIA, and that they were deeply concerned that
the cover-up over the origin of AIDS was going to be exposed."

(Professor Seagal.)

Have they done anything like this before?

"Somewhere in the world a germ is being cultured to which we would have no
natural resistance and to which we would have no sure defence."

(Professor J.D.Bernal, 1968 conference on biological warfare.)

"Within the next 5 to 10 years, it would probably be possible to make a new
infective micro-organism which could differ in certain important aspects from
any known disease-carrying organisms. Most important of these is that it might
be refractory to the immunological and therapeutic processes upon which we
depend to maintain our relative freedom from infectious disease."

(Doctor Donald MacArthur, US Department of Defense Appropriations for 1970.)

"By engineering the genetics of individual strains, micro-biologists aim to
produce a single strain containing the most deadly combination of properties."

(W.D.Lawton (Fort Detrick) and R.C.Morris and T.W.Burrows (Porton Down) in the
Journal of Genetic Microbiology.)

"Under such circumstances biological weapons are a weapon which can considerably
increase the effects of war on the civilian population. It is thus conceivable
that large parts of the population of an industrial area should be infected with
fatal or crippling biological material... Perhaps the germ of pest, typhus or
cholera... There are also many types of material designed to infect animals or
effect vegetation..."

(US General William M. Creasy, chief of the Department of Biological and
Chemical Warfare of the United States Army, in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung,
Dec 24 1954.)

"Biological warfare is the deliberate introduction of disease producing
organisms into populations of people, animals and plants. The organisms are the
same as those found in nature, but can be selected and cultured to be more
virulent and resistant than those found in nature... It is difficult to prove
guilt of an attack under certain circumstances... and if the organisms are
delivered in stealth, it could be argued that the situation is the result of a
spontaneous epidemic... Against unprotected populations the effectiveness of
large scale biological attacks may be comparable to the effects of nuclear
weapons... Biological weapons are extremely suitable for covert use, such as
sabotage. They work by delayed action; they are difficult to detect, and only a
small quantity is needed."

(From a Report to the National Science Foundation Special Subcommittee of the US
Senate, May 1960.)

"People today are much more willing to accept the humane use of bacteriological
and chemical warfare than most world leaders recognise... The Communists have
claimed we are using chemical warfare and killing many people with these agents.
These chemicals are relatively harmless to warm blooded animals including
humans... I do not think chemical and bacteriological warfare has the horror it
is pictured."

(Brigadier General J. Rothschild, Chemical Officer, US Far East Command, in
"Let's Use Gas Warfare in Vietnam," US journal "Science and Mechanics." April
1966.)

"A woman working in the laboratories of Fort Detrick received the Army Medal for
Distinguished Services (the highest American military award to civilians) for
her contribution to the development of a fungus which destroys rice."

(Science Jan 13 1967.)

"I know, and you know distinguished scientists who can be as forthright as the
rest of us in denouncing nuclear weapons, but will avoid the subject of
biological weapons. It is a psychological inhibition. They just don't want to
believe their fundamental work can be perverted. But I tell you the doomsday bug
is under wraps."

(Ritchie Calder, 1968 conference on biological warfare.)

"On January 19, 1962, Lansdale added an additional task to those assigned on
January 18. 'Task 33' involved a plan to incapacitate Cuban sugar workers during
the harvest by the use of chemical warfare means. Lansdale testified that the
plan involved using non-lethal chemicals to sicken Cuban workers temporarily and
keep them away from the fields for a 24-48 hour period without ill effects. The
task was initially approved for planning purposes with the notation that it
would require 'policy determination' before final approval."

(From 1975 US Senate Select Committee Report. Also in "General Lansdale's
Programme Review for the Cuban Project of Feb 20 1962. Basic Action IV." Now
declassified US document.)

"The Central Intelligence Agency refused to comment today on the information
that it may have been implied in a premeditated outbreak of African swine fever
in Cuba in 1971, which provoked the sacrifice of 500,000 pigs. An unidentified
source of the CIA revealed to Newsday that at the beginning of 1971 he was given
a container with virus at Fort Gulick, a US army base situated in the Panama
Canal Zone also used by the CIA, and that container was taken by a fishing boat
to underground agents in Cuba... It was the first time the disease appeared in
the Western hemisphere... It is known, through their own admission, that when
African swine fever broke out in Cuba, the CIA and the US Army were
experimenting with poisons, deadly toxins, products to destroy crops and other
techniques of biological warfare."

(From a UPI cable, Washington, Jan 9 1977.)

"Declassified documents released today state that the US army considered using
Aedes Aegypti mosquitos to spread yellow fever inside the USSR."

(Washington, Oct 29 (P.L.) in Granma, Oct 30 1980.)

"The US is not a party to any treaty now in force, that prohibits or restricts
the use in warfare of toxic or non-toxic gases, or of bacteriological warfare."

BUT IT ALL HAPPENED SO LONG AGO

It is sometimes said that the Nazi-hunters should forget it all and go home.

Simon Weisenthal's The Los Angeles centre for Nazi war crimes in a letter to
Helmut Kohl said that: "The biological clock on Nazi criminals is running out,
and the record of history should not read that those who took part in these
horrible crimes had the final victory by depriving justice of its true course."

There is talk of leniency for these war criminals and letting them live out
their "peaceful old age" because it all happened "so long ago". It must always
be remembered that their victims and the physically and mentally mutilated
survivors were never allowed to live out any peaceful old age. War criminals
cannot be allowed to commit their crimes in the certainty that so long as they
can remain hidden for a few years they will not be brought to justice. Humanity
must not record that crimes committed against it, whether recently or long ago,
can be rewarded with peaceful old age. It is not revenge that is sought. It is
the heartfelt human duty of justice and retribution and dignity that is owed to
the millions of victims and to the few survivors of the Nazi death camps and to
their surviving families and loved ones that these war criminals should not feel
the security or satisfaction that humanity will reward them with long and happy
lives in peaceful old age and that their crimes will go unpunished by humanity:

The debt owed to humanity can not be repaid while one Nazi criminal remains
free.

COULD IT STILL HAPPEN AGAIN?

"That which has happened is a warning. To forget it is guilt. It was
possible for this to happen. And it remains possible for it to happen again -
at any moment."

(German philosopher Karl Jaspers on fascism.)

"To think that that once almost ruled the world; This time the peoples
conquered it but yet Before rejoicing, let us not forget: The womb is fertile
still from which it crawled."

(Berthold Brecht, on fascism.)

Born in England in 1943, I have always mixed and felt comfortable with other
races and never felt inadequate or insecure that any of them might take away my
job or house.

A legacy of a colonial past and an imperialist present; so-called
'institutionalised' racism permeates British society. Ultimately, racist
thinking, perhaps starting with jokes or unthinking remarks, ends with the
Nuremberg of 1946, where the pathetic Nazis and their imbecile followers were
sentenced for their crimes against humanity. And to suggest that such crimes
were a particularly German trait is equally racist. Given a low enough level of
dumbing down education and culture, there is no reason to suppose that the
British wferould not also turn a blind eye. One or two people I know would even
turn on the gas.

I come from a white family with opposing racial attitudes. Living in apartheid
South Africa, my sister benefited from and fully supported apartheid; and I
worked in London for a then banned ANC (African National Congress) organisation.
After the end of apartheid, having made myself almost unemployable, I ended up
in extremely low paid work in a local hospital; where I was amazed to find these
same illogical and ridiculous attitudes and values among staff at all levels.

It ranges from one worker complaining that "A bloody Paki" reversed into her
driveway and stopped her getting out. When I asked if she would have told us the
driver's nationality if he was Irish (as she is), the reply consisted in
senseless remarks about "people who think like you". It ranges to another worker
saying that the pubs and the evening classes in her area are full of "tinted"
people; and, after hearing of racial cleansing in Bosnia, remarked: "We need
racial cleansing here." and "I'm sorry, but I have to say it, I'd vote for the
BNP (neo-Nazi party) since I support voluntary repatriation." When I asked if
she included my wife (who is Indian) in this, she replied the usual and
predictable: "Oh no, not the educated professional ones." I then asked: "Oh you
mean the Indian lady who cleans your work area when you're tucked up in bed each
night?" She said "Oh no, just the ones who don't work." I replied "Oh you mean
the Indian cleaning lady's two unemployed sons?" "Oh no, not them, but the ones
who ..." and so on till the list was exhausted without any example of who should
be repatriated, or for that matter burned in BNP chimneys.

Finally I told her that most black or tinted children here would not be
accepting any kind of 'repatriation' and that her remaining option would be to
get a lot of bricks and cement and start building gas chambers, because she
would have to burn millions of people, including those who "think like me".

All the non-white nurses I spoke to in my hospital had experienced prejudice. In
three different hospitals recently, my wife, a theatre nurse, encountered
not-well-disguised ethnophobic sentiments. In one instance, a senior often told
white colleagues they could go home early but made non-whites stay their
official time. Are such people conscious of their attitudes, or do they think
that nobody notices?

An article I wrote about such racism experienced by nurses was accepted for
publication in Nursing Times. Although neither the hospital nor anybody
concerned were identifiable, the article came to the attention of the hospital
Public Relations management; and strangely, a week later I received a kill fee
for the article from Nursing Times who now preferred not to use it.

So why doesn't everybody else "think like me" about other races? Is it only a
Paki who could reverse into somebody's driveway, and not a white person? Is it
only tinted people who could flood evening classes and pubs according to some
backward mentality of fear in a dosey English village and somehow keep out the
whites? What on earth are they frightened of? Why do they feel so inadequate and
insecure in themselves?

There is no racial justification for fear of another human being. Fear of the
unfamiliar is an old animal response; irrational in humans, who are supposed to
have evolved beyond that stage. Racism is not natural. It is learned. As US
labour leader Harry Bridges remarked: "No man has ever been born a Negro hater,
a Jew hater, or any other kind of hater. Nature refuses to be involved in such
suicidal practices."

Occurring in economic decline, racism flourishes among low intellectual and
cultural levels; and needs to be explained by its history. British racism
originates in its history of slavery and colonial plundering of other peoples'
lands, then depicting them as inferior savages and needing civilisation - ours
of course. Britain has a long history of 'civilising' other races - by shooting
crowds at Amritsar, burning villages in Malaya, and similar civilising missions
all over the globe.

Whether white English people like it or not, our ideas of race are inseparably
linked in our imperial past, and survive today in outmoded racial thinking.

Inculcated long ago for a more direct purpose, racism is essentially an
education problem. Ignoring this, teachers, especially of history, are
completely neglecting their task of educating the young to the full facts of
history which gave birth to British racist ideas; and in the vacuum left, these
ideas are still passing on from one ignorant generation to another. This factor
must always be addressed and be a central argument for racism to be successfully
eliminated from British social thinking.

Shall we now forget? Shall we not teach the realities of history because it is
politically incongruent?

"Earth; conceal not the blood shed on thee."

(Belsen epitaph.)

This we owe to all victims of racism and genocide.

British school and college history syllabus teaching and books do not contain
this information.

All the material and information I have presented here is readily available to
historians, writers, journalists, teachers, educators and syllabus publishers.
Although I have spent many hundreds of hours gathering it all together, I did
not have to look very far to find any of it.

When as a trainee history lecturer, it was suggested I take the class on a trip
to the Tower of London and then set them an essay on what life was like for a
soldier in King Charles' Army centuries ago. Very useful knowledge that! A
sociology of the past perhaps? But certainly not history in its most important
sense; unless history is to mean anything old or 'interesting' that you can do
in evening classes, like antiques, flower arranging or basket weaving. When
instead I taught real history, learning from the past in order to change the
future, the collective life-experience of humanity, I was got rid of. The head
of the history department complained that the students had remarked that I made
them think; which the head of history had probably never done in a lifetime of
teaching. I ended up washing and cleaning and emptying human surgical waste in a
hospital.

Unless teachers learn to be brave and intellectually honest (difficult when they
have a mortgage and bills to pay), future historical, social and economic
education and popular 'knowledge' will also not refer to the US or British
history and continuing complicity in global plunder, exploitation, domination
and control, wars of aggrandisement and acquisition, causing the deaths and
devastation of the homes and lands of millions of people - the thousands of
children under the age of two who will die tonight through simple lack of food,
clean water, medicine and education - the untold millions of unnecessary deaths
among the overwhelming majority of humanity on this incredibly rich and abundant
and ultimately sustainable earth.
