A book?
Tres tacky...
But what do you expect? Tony is in this to get paid like everybody
else.
The 24hrpp soundtrack...
I was going to buy it but I changed my mind. The album has 18 songs,
and most songs are by New Order and the Happy Mondays. I thought that
was the wrong thing to do. Why would they release songs by bands that
are already famous and, in the case of New Order, have a ready catalog
available to everyone? Everyone knows who New Order is for the most
part, the happy mondays in England. If you release a cd and the songs
are already well known, what's the point in buying it? the only song
by a non factory band is the Sex Pistols, "Anarchy in the UK", which
is on every cd the the band, plus every punk compilaton cds. No, they
should have done it differently. 24hrpp should have been a teaser.
First of all, New Order, Happy Mondays, and Joy Division should have
gotten two or three songs each. Maybe Joy Division should get a little
more but that's it. Then they should have opened the old trunk of
factory put maybe one single from lesser known bands and also put more
songs on from the movie, like songs from A Certain Ratio and some
other bands that I liked in the movie and didn't write down. *duh*
Then they should have some non-factory bands, and put their best songs
on the cd. The non-factory bands should have gotten one song each.
they should have the more influential bands, like: buzzcocks, wire,
the jam, the fall. The clash is on there, but they put "Janie Jones"
on the cd. I think that they should have put "White Riot". Then, after
the soundtrack has been in the market, and drums up suffient interest,
they should release factory's entire catalog, with in a cd boxed set.

was it the best record label ever?! i'd say it was, but with 4AD a close second, as 4AD had Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Clan Of Xymox and Xmal...
no, you said it yourself: '4AD had Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance...' and don't forget pixies. sure, joy division is great, but the rest of the bands...
I think SY joined Geffen basically because they were able to secure a contract where they could release basically whatever type of music they wanted...I also...
Factory is the "legendary dramatic/darkly artistically beautiful" record label so it wins for me on that account. Joy Division and the legend of Joy Division,...
My list is, as I said, LTM, Factory Benelux, Factory, and then 99 Records (American label, home to ESG [who were on Factory] and Liquid Liquid), then 4AD...
changing the subject slightly..what about best record label boss? i'd still opt for tony wilson..because, depsite being a "twat" (as he's labelled in 24hpp),...
No, Tony Wilson didn't believe in some of the bands on his label, which is why Crispy Ambulance, Minny Pops, and The Names were shifted to Factory Benelux....
changing the subject a bit (again), what do you all think of tony's decision to ask paul morley to write "the book" straight after ian's death? and making him...
