the Love Will Tear Us Apart video was a live performance of the song
filmed at T.J. Davidson's (the band's rehearsal place).
The studio track was then dubbed over the video of the band's live
performance.
It was recorded on the 28th April 1980, which was about 3 weeks
before Ian's suicide.
As for Joy Division being facist, that isn't true.
The band played around with the imagery initially more for shock
value, to set themselves apart from other bands.
Although Ian was very interested in many German things..Werner Herzog
movies, Kraut-rock and electronica, German Composers and yes, the
Nazi Regieme.
But just because he was interested in the regieme doesn't make Ian a
nazi...lots of people, myself included, are interested in that time
period, as it was a pivitol moment in world history.
As for New Order's name, Rob Gretton (JD/NO manager) found the name
while reading a newspaper headline in summer 1980..it had nothing to
do with Nazi Germany :)
It wasn't until the band announced to the press what their choice of
new name was that people jumped to conclusions.
hope all this helps!
