I had the previlige to meet Bernard Sumner a while ago, and
he said they got the name New Order from Ian's death. They
needed to start over musically, on a new slate, therefore
New Order means to start over, because it is in fact a new
order... know what I mean?
The moon has NO wings...

Wasn't "New Order" named after Pol Pot's regime? I can't remember where I read that... I think JD/NO only have fascist references to challenge the audience,...
I know New Order's name was after something Rob Gretton read in a newspaper article..what the article was about i can't recall. ... where I ... challenge the ...

Mmmm...the choice of names for both Joy Division and New Order were always going to be controversial. I think he was right about creating a New Order as a...
That was the Atmosphere video, directed by Anton Corbijn, actually, I don't know very much about it, because I'm rather young, but I've watched it countless...
I'll be different to both of you and choose Unknown Pleasures, although I love all the albums. Unknown Pleasures because Disorder is such a perfect opening...
The version of She's Lost Control from Substance is the 12" version, which was recorded in march 1980. The song was re-recorded for two reasons i believe. 1)...
The door scene was probably influenced by the photo on the inner cover of Unknown Pleasures, called "the Enchanted Hand", found by young Bernard in an arts...
As i've said..Joy Division's name was inspired by 'The House Of Dolls' book which Ian had read, and New Order's name came from an article Rob Gretto read in a...
Is it just me, or is interpol so blatently influeced by Joy Division? Can't really blame them. I mean i like Interpol, (have their album which is very good),...
We've discussed Interpol before on this group..yeah they are alot like Joy Division, a bit too much for my liking. Being influenced by a band is one thing, but...
Actually, i retract my statement. After listening to again to Interpol i don't think they sound that much like Joy Division. And their album sleeve was...
Interpol doesn't sound that much like joy division to me. They lack the oft frantic, fevered passion that JD brings to their music. As for prefering older...
I like Interpol I think their the best band to come out in 10 years. Musically Interpol sounds NOTHING like Joy Division, Paul Banks sounds SLIGHTLY like Ian,...
while we're on the subject of Joy Division rip-offs, i think the Manic Street Preachers almost blatantly ripped off 'The Eternal' for their track 'The Intense...
I quite like Interpol, I think it's a bit unfair that they're targeted as a "poor man's Joy Division" so much. I mean, everyone "rips off" someone, ...
I think it's a bit unfair to compare An Ideal For Living EP with Interpol's debut. As Deborah Curtis said in 'Touching From A Distance'; if Joy Divison had got...

Yeah suicide are pretty darn good. Frankie Teardrop is a genius song, scares the shit out of me, i find it similar to Velvet Underground - The Gift in that...
what do people here think of PIL (public image limited)? I think the first 2 albums are great post-punk...the 3rd isn't bad either. But 'Metal Box' is a...
