My, Goodness, its dead in here! Is anybody home? Hello? I am writing
to ask about the lyrics to some of Joy Divison's songs. What confuses
me is that Ian often sings to another person in some of the songs,
refering to this person as "You"; for example, in "Heart and Soul",
he sings "You take my place in the showdown", or "In A Means to an
End" he sings "I put my trust in you". Who is he refering to? Is he
refering to himself, another part of his consciousness, his state of
being, or another person entirely? Does Ian believe in God, or is he
an atheist? Is there something, a book I could read that would
explain the lyrics to me more clearly? Please clarify.
