wow! that was deep, dude! i think you maybe right tho. i have been
rakin' my teeny tiny brain tryin to think of manc bands before joy
division (of the same genre)but none comes to mind.
im usualy more amazed at how many people have NEVER heard of joy
division. well, they have heard of them but they dont realise this
till i explain that "they are the ones that sang love will tear us
apart".
Is anyone else amazed at how big joy division are these days, also how
new order formed and went to be just as succesful. Its mad that the
whole manchester music scene started with joy division.Curtis death
most probably played a big part in shaping music that was to
come, altho no band has never and never will capture what joy
division had!
Alright man, hope you get to read this, missing you like we miss a
beer,im only 50% when im not with you,you really do make it so much
more fun goin out and gettin hammerered.Cant wait to see you
again.Hope life is being good to you!xxx!
cant wait to go back to Macclesfield again, last time was the
bollocks,i reckon each time i go there will only get better. Its weird
to go there and then go to some of the local pubs and they ask you
what you are doing in Macclesfield and when you tell them they have
never heard of their favourite son,Ian Curtis, unbelievable!Lookin
forward to goin there in the summer with the person of my dreams and
meetin all the freindly faces in the pub again! It is a boss weekend
out just cause you dont really know any one there so can do what the
hell you like and no-one will bat an eyelid.Go there and be the
coolest people in town,i know we were last time we went!
i have read the book'touching from a distance',which was a gift from some cool
dude.didnt realise how much of a twisted soul he wasMaybe that added to his
persona,he had the talent
i think its amazin how he alreay knew he was gonna make songs and succeed.i can
only imagine what it must have been like to have been around at that time.the
songs are just as powerful now and i think a whole generation will get caught up
in the music.

I'm glad you got to see the cemetery in Macclesfield.
Ian's death was tragic, but at the same time, with him going through
such personal turmoil, it's understandable why he did what he did.
Enjoy seeing New Order!

Anyway, glad to be amongst like minded people and look forward to

Thanks
John.
25 years on. Joy Division's music means so much to me, as do Ian's
words. They always will. The music is still timeless, evocative,
beautiful.
A true genius, albeit a troubled one; a man for whom my admiration
will never fade.
"Avenues all lined with trees, picture me and then you start
watching...forever"
Rest in peace Ian.
Regarding the new Ian biopic movie, one of the two soundtrack cds
will feature covers by bands who are J/D fans.
So far, bands asked to record songs are U2, Marilyn Manson, Kraftwerk
and Doves. Apparently, only Kraftwerk have so far declined.
I don't fancy U2 or M.Manson slaughtering JD material!
It is a great issue, although i see your point...but i suppose at
least they've done something for the 25th anniversary of Ian's death.
Or maybe it's cos New Order have a new album out? I wonder...

Glad someone else here is a fan! :D
I recommend the follow-up to 'From The Lion's Mouth'; 'All Fall
Down'...it's a great album, i'd say equal to Lion's Mouth.

Yes , not only have i heard of them i have been saying
for some time to various peole how unsung they are , i
e mailed stuart maconie at radio 2 to suggest THE
SOUND as a feature for his unsung feature also .
Ive got three of there cd's , recently re issued
JEPORDY , FROM THE LIONS MOUTH and IN THE HOTHOUSE
live at the marquee august 1985 , from the lions
mouth
is the best of them especially the track ' sense of
purpose .
Sad to say adrian borland , like ian curtis , took
his own life but the music , especially from the lions
mouth cd is heavily influenced by joy division .
i urge you all to check this band out !!!! .

The late great Jimbo Morrison said "This is the end my only friend rhe end". -
Mr Curtis tried to prove it just about a decade (or so) later. Can't be sure
about the dates 'cos "Mr. Mojo risin" is still Simple Minds (Alive and kicking.)
Oh oh - I'm getting carried away here.
Fred
Dale
P.S. I worked with Jim Morrison at William Press works, Wallsend, Tyne & Wear
(fact!!!)
Someone take these dreams away.

Ok i'll get the BBC recordings next, and the other live recordings,
but not the box set as i have the majority of the tracks anyway, and
i am not made of money (although thinking about it that would be
pretty damn cool)
I have also been thinking of getting a joy division tatoo of the
unknown pleasures album cover, but where you think it'll look
best...no crude replies please...we are adults after all

Definately get the 'Complete BBC Recordings' next, as it features
great alternate versions of JD classics and an interview with Ian and
Steve.
The 2 live albums (Preston and Les Bains Douches) are also fantastic,
so get those as well if you can.
The 'Warsaw' album is good, but don't expect a pristine sounding
album, as it's tracks from an aborted attempt at recording an album
for a major label in 1978...but the version of 'Shadowplay' on that
album is stunning.
And last but definately not least, get the 'Heart And Soul' boxset!
It's got virtually every studio recording J/D ever made, plus great
live tracks and a wonderful deluxe booklet.
Basically, get everything!

Hello, I am just dropping this note to announce the creation of a Joy
Division meetup group in New York City. What do meetup groups do?
Well we gather together in pre-arraranged place and discuss all
things Joy Division. We also have a message board where you can leave
your opinions, suggestions, etc. We will be meeting every fourth
friday of the month at 8pm, the place TBA very soon. To sign on for
the meetup, the link is: http://joydivision.meetup.com/1/
Thanks for listening.
My Joy Division collection is now Unknown Pleasures, Closer,
Substance, and Still and i was wonder what do people recommend me
getting next. I was curious about Warsaw, but have many of the
tracks already, as well as the BBC recording, Preston 1980 and Les
Bains Douche all take my fancy, (anyone's i missed?) but wondered
what people thought should be my next purchase
Does anyone have any Joy Division/New Order/Factory tattoos?
I'm only asking because my g/f has had a photo of her Joy Divsion
tattoo put up at http://members.aol.com/lwtua/scrapbook.htm
It's the one with the Ideal For Living era text..rather stunning i'm
sure you'll agree!
Speaking of the movie, there's news about it at www.joydiv.com
