Dear Science & astronomy friends,
Sub: POST MORTEM Mystery ball of fire falls in Khopoli @
http://www.mid-day.com/news/city/2005/january/101299.htm
I wrote : wrIts really good observation, But more details really needs more
efforts,
WAS that really a SONIC BOOM? or a Meteor exploded OR BOTH coincident?
1) We generally see about normal 10 -15 (On Mountains) Km up to horizone. that
is equals to 30 -45 sec for Sound travel at the spped of 1120f/s OR 337M /s
and if the PLANE WAS at low level means was near to the observer - say 5 Km
distance =15 second interval!
A) so if super sonic is approching to the observer the observer has less than
10 -15 seconds for an approching plane and one has to rush to see the plane else
will miss to see that.
B) while for a plane was going away from the observer - while one hear the sound
- one never be able to see the plane as while sound arrive to the observer plane
pass far away and faster than the sound.
2) If that was the case of meteor Generally we do not hear any sound blast
UNLESS it explodes above surface or strike the surface - In both case remnents
are found - and leading to smoke and some fire around as in case of Bhuvneshwar
meteor fire.
3) Meteor tail is bright wite/bluish while (aeroplane) PLANE tail is
redish/orange and a small angle triangular tail behing JET- hope as many
astronomers and investigating members rushed to the place must have identified
those differences and so they must have clear ideas of those in mind before
rushing to the incidence place.
So still is not clear what actually has happened. both sides giving all likely
incident explanations but both incomplete to satisfy each. Looks some thig
unclear and overlaping too. was that a A sonic BOOM heard and seen a fire ball
for some thing else.
it is not a job of single person to find out, difficult to know unless a joint
team works out after a hard search - may not find if if some thing happend near
lake area, and also in deep forested area of western ghat of IGNEOUS ROCKS.
