Earth measurement (Measuring size -the Diameter of the EARTH)and
measuring the Latitude of the place where you are. as the Sun is on the
Equator of the Earth the SHADOW by the sundial gives you an angle of the
place where you make the experiment at the LOCAL NOON TIME (LOCAL 12PM)
of the place (not the IST time - except where the 82.5 longitude passes
through). ALSO very important for the finding the locations - places of
EQUATOR on the EARTH (NOTpassing through INDIA) but also helps to find
the tropic of CANCER (N 23.45) - passes through middle of INDIA from
middle of KUTCH to BANGOL. The place where the tropic of cance is
passing will give an angle of 23.45 degree on sun dial. HAPPY EQUINOX
