Mongoose Publishing is about to release a new version of the
Traveller RPG. They intend to follow the Traveller Campaign Setting
up with a variety of compatible sci-fi RPGs.

In order to make this all accesible, they have decided to open the
system up. There will eventually be a Traveller SRD, which will be
very useful to anyone making their own tabletop sci-fi game.

However at the moment, they are still in the playtesting phase. They
have released an Alpha version of Traveller called Traveller Playtest
Document v3.2. Here is the URL:
http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/Traveller%20Playtest%20Doc.pdf

You might need to reassemble that back onto one line if it breaks up.
The PDF is a massive 2.8MB! It doesn't contain OGC at this stage, but
you could probably use it if you want to start converting your own
science fiction universe over to Traveller rules.

I haven't played Traveller myself, but I know that Sparky is a big
fan of it, so I'll be checking it out when it arrives. The fact that
they are doing an SRD will make it much more useful if we ever decide
to convert the VE Universe to Traveller. The system itself is not a
d20 System game, but the character creation rules seem to fit in a
lot better with the sort of thing we have tried to do at VE.

I've been experimenting with something called Google Docs and have
started to put my list of monsters into three tables.

I have entered all the playable core, psionic and epic monsters into
3 tables. After looking at the tables I decided that I need to
shuffle things around on the core monster table. I'm also adding in
some cross-references.

All of the races are going to link over to content on the Hypertext
d20 SRD website.

When I have finished shuffling the tables, I intend to create two
more tables: one for templates that can be applied to playable races
and one for variant races (which Hypertext d20 SRD takes from
Unearthed Arcana OGC).

Google Docs allows people to publish things online. You can see what
I have done so far here:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dvsjcxp_5dpv9fk

I might eventually turn this into a PDF, but that would be a long way
down the road.

Happy gaming!

If you can't see your post immediately, please don't panic and double
post. There are a couple of reasons why you might not see your post
straight away:

1) Yahoo Groups is not as fast as it used to be. It can take a few
minutes before posts on the website get emailed out and put online.

2) Our anti-spam settings now mean that all new members are
moderated. Due to anti-social spammers, the admins of this group have
now been forced to put all new members into the moderation queue.
This means that when you post, we have to approve the message before
it gets displayed. If we are all offline then your message waits in a
queue until one of us logs in.

We can't control the speed of Yahoo Groups, but if you have any
questions about our anti-spam policy you can email the "group
owners". (The email adress is on the group website, the second link
in my signature, and you can also use the group's posting form to
send emails to the owners.)

If you have any other questions about Virtual Eclipse, LARP or role
playing then please continue to post in the group.

Subject: More monster races added to our links pages
david_shepheard
Offline Offline

While the LARP activities of VE have been a been a bit dead for several
years, we have still been arranging the occasional tabletop game.

Most of these games have been using Dungeons & Dragons or other
compatible games using the d20 System game engine known as the System
Resource Document.

As some of you will know, I've been collecting links for these
compatible games.

I have now grabbed almost all of the playable monster races from the
SRD and put them into our links pages. To see them go to our links page:
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/virtualeclipselrp/links

Then follow the links to:
> d20 System and compatible RPGs
> Rules
> Races

The links themselves (at least most of the links) lead to monster
entries at the Hypertext d20 SRD. The Hypertext d20 SRD website is one
of the best online versions of the SRD I have found. It is a great
resource for calculating game statistics when you are away from home
and can't get to your game books. Everything in the monster stats that
refers to rules elsewhere is hyperlinked and you can click away to find
almost all the rules you need to play a character from that race.

Where a "[monster name] As Characters" section has been available I've
linked directly to that. Where that section isn't available you will
need to do a few additional calculations to work out the sort of skills
available to the monster before you can play a PC from that race.

Note that monsters with any stats below 10 need a special character
creation process. You can find the extra rules for monsters as
characters here:
http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/monstersAsRaces.htm

I've added the "Level Adjustment" and "Racial HD" to help you work out
the "Effective Character Level" a PC made from that monster race will
have. (ECL = LA + Racial HD + class levels)

So far I've done most of the standard monsters. I skipped dragons as
they have variable ECLs and variable HD. I've got to go back and do
them at some point and I also want to cover the psionic monsters and
epic monsters (which the Hypertext d20 SRD put on other sections of
their website).

When I've collected the lot I might try making some classified lists,
but I'll need somewhere better than my links pages to do that sort of
thing.

Happy gaming!

I don't know if this convention is legit, but I've been to other
conventions in the past and they seem to be a rip off to me.

You have to pay to get autographs and everything there is something
to buy. Yet you have to pay an entry fee as well. I've not seen one
where you actually get something for your entry money.

I just watched a video about a new rifle called the Tavor. It pulls the
mechanism back to the stock to form a very short weapon with a barrel
that runs the full lenght of the gun. In that it is similar to the
Styer. It looks very futuristic and I'm sure that someone will try to
make something similar for a Lazer Tag game soon. Here is the link if
you are interested in watching it in action:

In the last few days aboho.com, the company that hosts the Virtual
Eclipse website, has suddenly decided to shut down.

This means that our website virtualeclipse.aboho.com is no longer
available. Our backup website is still online and you can see it here:
http://www32.brinkster.com/virtualeclipse/

Sadly Google Site Search does not work on our backup site. I shall be
looking for a replacement host and will let you know when I have one.

In the meantime I have removed the Google search box from the VE Yahoo
Group. I haven't removed the search box from the back up site so if you
really want to search for something try going to our Brinkster website.
However, bear in mind that all of the pages are now gone and that you
will only be able to read things that remain in Google's cache.

Normal search service will be resumed when I find a new host for the VE
website. I'll let you know when I have that arranged.

As you may know, I'm a big fan of Star Wars fan films, so when I saw
this vegetable version of Star Wars I was interested:

However, the political messages (i.e. Organic food is good) somewhat
spoil the enjoyment, of what is otherwise a good idea.

I just found a great little tune that used to be played on Radio 4
called the "UK Theme".

It is a medley of well known tunes from around the UK and is *so* uber-
British that I think it would be great as the national anthem of the
Star Kingdom of Pegasus. LOL

Have a listen to it and see what you think:

http://www.sterlingtimes.org/music_themes20.htm

The only problem with this music is that I can't find a midi version
anywhere, and the version on that site is far too big to put on our
main website.

I don't know why these spammers want to post links here. We don't have
many members and I don't think anyone here is that ignorant of porn
that they can't find it for themselves.

I just wish that Yahoo! would let people report spam to them and delete
spammers from their system.

Bah!

Hi Guys.

See below for the current planned list of events for laser tag. Skirmish

I know of 2 sources of kit for laser tag – the Fiat Lux group and Phil

Thanks for the info Graham, but a lot of it got mangled by the group

Many of us seem to have expanded a "tiny" bit in the waist
department, so our next LARP event could possibly be called "Mission
Womble" (especially if we did another underground one - LOL)! ;)

I've heard of the odd VE Ghost Recon net game, but didn't have ADSL
back then so wasn't involved. I don't think they do so many GR games
lately as everyone knows the maps. I'll see if I can get joining
details if anyone is still interested.

For anyone who has never played Ghost Recon once you pay for it you
can play online or net games for free. Don't buy the new Ghost Recon
Advanced Warfare game - it looks good but is unplayable. VE players
use the old Ghost Recon.

I had a quick look and it sounds very interesting. I'm a bit busy at
the moment (I've been offline for *ages* and am still catching up
with people and online things). However I'll check it out again in a
week or so.

> I am in an outfit that uses teamspeak for tactics, and would love

A few VE members have got into playing World of Warcraft and have
started their own guild. They use Teamspeak as well. It seems like a
really good way to co-ordinate games.

I'll see if I can get hold of the details of the VE WoW guild (and
the WoW server they play on), just in case anyone else wants to join
them. WoW is *not* a free game, but there is a free trial offer
somewhere. I'll look for that as well.

> Remember, its free, but if you like it you can upgrade.

The free game expires on March 24, 2007! So people have until then to
decide if they like it. Even though it isn't free forever, I think
that is a good period for a free trial. If you don't like it by then,
I don't think you are ever going to like it.

Beachball? Interesting name. Any reason for picking it? Does your
guild (or PlanetSide) have some sort of naming convention or did it
come off the top of your head?

I haven't done any online gaming yet but it sounds fun. The beer and
curry sounds great (well the curry does - I don't drink). I hope we
can all meet up sometime this year and catch up.

You know, its a LONG time since we last played an LRP game. I recall
talking to Rog at the time (when Ghost Recon became de rigeur for us
and we had networked sessions at Kim and Sparkies). He said 'perhaps
this is the year virtual eclipse goes virtual'.

Anyway, I'd like to draw your attention to:

http://planetside.station.sony.com/reserves/

Planetside is a first person sci fi shooter I play. It really
rewards teamwork and I reckon some of you folks would find it a lot
of fun. I've been playing it for 3 years on a paying account, but
they now have a free version, called planetside reserves.

The only real difference is you are limited in Battle Rank and
Command Rank. This does not prevent you from being reasonably
effective on the battlefield, although your character will be less
flexible than a higher ranking one. But its not like say D@D where a
level 20 character will completely outclass a level 6 character. The
Battle rank limits the number of different weapons / vehicles /
support equipment you can use, but does not decrease the
effectiveness of each piece of kit. In other words you will not be a
sitting duck for players on full accounts.

I am in an outfit that uses teamspeak for tactics, and would love to
see some of you guys in game. Remember, its free, but if you like it
you can upgrade.

Anyway, here is our guild website: www.khaosclan.com

Our main faction within the game is New Conglomerate (NC) on the
Werner server. My main characters name is Beachball.

Hope to see some of you there; additionally its about time we met
up. I need beer and curry.

Hi Guys,

I just found out that "Van Richten's Guide to the Mists", a full d20
System Ravenloft product, failed to get commercially published
because of a licencing issue. This entire product is now available as
a *free* pdf download from the publisher:

http://www.white-wolf.com/downloads.php?category_id=21

There are also 6 other RPG extracts that you can download to check
out their other Ravenloft products. But if you want to buy any of
them, you'd better hurry as they can only be sold up to the end of
the month, when the licence expires. After that you might find them
in your local RPG store bargain bucket.

I'll also be adding this link to the VE Links pages, which I suggest
you check out if you are looking for other free downloads.
