San Diego Summer Brannin left the world five years ago today. Kidney
cancer took her away before she reached 22 years of age. If you
don't know
who she is, you can read all about her at
http://www.thesummersite.com .
Just by seeing her drawings and reading stories about her, it's easy
to see
how much style, talent, beauty, heart, humor and life she had in
her. It's
also easy to see why she's so missed by everyone that ever met her.
In 2000, Summer's House of Cookies Records released Songs For
Summer, a
memorial charity record featuring 15 of Summer's favorite musicians,
including Ben Folds Five, Neutral Milk Hotel, the B-52's and Jonathan
Richman. LA singer Anna Waronker recorded a beautiful version
of "Catch"
by the Cure for the record. It's remained unreleased until now.
You can
listen to it at http://www.songsforsummer.com/anna . Summer was
passionate
about introducing people to her favorite music, whether it was with
genius
mixtapes or acapella examples.
We hope you'll pass this info along to a friend in that same spirit
or put
a link up on your website somewhere. Thanks in advance.
