Once upon a time, in a land far, far away called
Ireland, there was a rock
band that took their blend of
edgy music to the masses. Hit after hit they left
their mark in every household. Soon enough, everyone
knew who U2
were and they went on to be one of the
most successful bands ever. After 25 years, they are
still alive and kicking.

From U2, the Irish
throne was passed into the hands of Boyzone. While they
did not survive long as a group, frontman Ronan
Keating, along with Louis Walsh, came up with an idea of
forming Boyzone clones. Get together five talented boys
who sing and dance and mould them into superstars.
With that formula, Westlife was born.

Naturally
Westlife started off by sharing the Irish limelight with
other Irish bands like The Corrs and B*Witched, but
over the years, they have broken out of those reins
and conquered the pop world, making them one of the
most successful boy bands of today. So much talent
from such a small country; one would naturally think
there is something in the water.

Traveling
around the world promoting their follow-up album to
their record breaking self-titled album, Shane Filan,
Bryan McFadden, Kian Egan, Nicky Bryne and Mark Feehily
returned to Malaysia for the third
time recently. Lucky
for us, we managed to con our way of getting an
invitation to the press conference that was held at the
fancy Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel (think chandeliers,
think heavy décor).

With numerous No. 1 hits and
the status of one of the richest boy bands under
their belts, read what they had to say about being in
the Guinness Book of Records, being single and their
plans for the future.

Taken by MTV ASIA
