Time running out to end the tiger trade
Next week delegates from 171 countries will be assembling in the Netherlands
for a meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered
Species. This is the world's biggest wildlife treaty, with nearly every
country in the world a member.
Amongst the topics expected to be discussed is whether China will lift its
successful ban on domestic trade of tiger parts.
Reopening even a limited legal trade would reignite a demand for wild tiger
products and spark an open season on tigers in the wild. We need to send a
strong, clear and powerful message to the world that this simply cannot
happen.
There are 2 simple actions you can take to help protect tigers:
1. If you haven't already done so add your photo to the tiger photo mosaic.
We will publicly present the mosaic at the meeting and show the world's
support for tiger conservation

urce=email
2. Send a message to China. Ask China to keep its tiger trade ban in place.
Your views will be personally conveyed to China's leaders.

If you've already completed both actions thank you! But there is still more
you can do! Please forward this email onto your friends, family and
co-workers. The more people who take action, the more powerful our voice
will be and the greater the chance we have or making a difference.
With your help we can end the tiger trade.
Thank you,
WWF International
More than 20,000 people have added their photo to the tiger mosaic.
There is still time to add yours!

Beluga Whales Still Need Your Help
In a few short days, ocean activists
have submitted an incredible 7,000 public comments to the National
Marine Fisheries Service to help protect Cook Inlet beluga whales.
Let's keep the momentum going and send even more. If you
haven't yet taken action, there's still time. You can also
keep tabs on the count with our "belugometer" and send
beautiful beluga e-cards to all your friends reminding them to get
involved. Help save beluga whales, take action at

Aquaculture Bill Introduced In Congress
Representatives recently introduced to Congress the National Offshore
Aquaculture Act (HR 2010) to authorize fish farming in federal waters.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the agency
responsible for regulating aquaculture, is hoping to triple domestic fish
farming by 2025, but sea ranching, as some call it, can endanger the
environment. Drugs and fish waste can pollute nearby waters. Escaped fish
can spread disease and parasites, and weaken the gene pool of wild fish.
Moreover, it can take more than 6 pounds of wild fish to feed 1 pound of
some farmed species, resulting in a loss of important forage fish and ocean
protein. Ocean conservancy is taking the lead to ensure that aquaculture is
developed safely and sustainably in the US. Read more about aquaculture,

HELP LIONS, SNOW LEOPARDS AND MORE [US members]
Dear WWF Activist,
Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor the Great Cats and Rare Canids
Act.
Lions, snow leopards, African wild dogs, and other wild cats and canids may
be fierce and powerful, but they are also extremely vulnerable. Worldwide,
they face serious threats from illegal hunting, habitat loss, disease, and
many other factors.
Last year, there was significant support in the House for a Great Cats and
Rare Canids bill. WWF thanks the many activists who urged their
representatives to support that bill and helped boost the number of
cosponsors. The debate is starting anew and a nearly identical bill has
been introduced in both chambers of Congress. Once again, we need to
demonstrate strong support for the measure by convincing many members of
Congress to become cosponsors.
Send a free letter urging your members of Congress to save these critically
important species.

The battle to save these animals has repercussions beyond the survival of
any single animal. As top predators, big cats and dogs are vital cogs in
their respective ecosystems, and as indicator species, their health is
linked to the health of their surroundings.
A personalized letter carries much more weight than sending our pre-written
letter without any edits. Click here to add your own thoughts now.

Please forward this alert to your friends and family.
Together, we can make a difference for these imperiled creatures. Thank
you.
Sincerely,
Ginette Hemley
