Well, I'm sure you're not surprised by now that Bush is at it again. Last week he unveiled his "new plan" for global warming just in time for this week's G8 meeting in Germany. While the rest of the world is ready to discuss serious proposals to address the threat of global warming, Bush is still trying to avoid taking action.
Don't leave it up to President Bush to stop global warming!
TAKE ACTION NOW! Bush has proven once and for all that the world must move on global warming without him. That's why we're launching Project Hot Seat, and we're ready to put politicians to the test.
Project Hot Seat is an exciting new campaign that will move us past President Bush's inaction. Our focus now is on Congress, and it's crucial that we build support for urgent action once President Bush leaves the White House. So we're turning up the heat on Congress and demanding that they support strong action to solve global warming. We've got a lot of catching up to do after 8 years of Bush, but the good news is that with YOUR help we can do it.
I'll be telling you more about Project Hot Seat and how you can help in the coming weeks. But right now, as President Bush flies off to Germany to try and stop the rest of the world from acting on global warming, it's up to you to tell Congress to move ahead without him.
Your friend,

Samantha Rodgers Project Hot Seat Campaigner

After several months, thousands of letters, pictures, phone calls, and bake sales, the moment we've all been working toward finally arrived in Anchorage, Alaska last week. Thanks to all of YOU, we were able to bring together a majority of countries in favor of whale conservation, and overturn a dangerous precedent that was set at last year's International Whaling Commission meeting in St. Kitts. The "St. Kitts Declaration," tried to weaken the 20-year ban on commercial whaling, but thankfully this year a large majority of countries agreed that the moratorium remains a key measure for whale conservation and they overturned the St. Kitts Declaration in a stunning 37-4 vote.
This was a huge victory for whale conservation worldwide.
But as positive as these results were, our work is far from over. Last year's vote in St. Kitts was a major wake up call. Japan momentarily gained a one-vote majority and it took all of your support this year to turn the tide. It's time to put an end to whaling, and for the IWC to take on the many other threats faced by whales, such as toxic contaminants, fisheries bycatch, habitat degradation, ship strikes, and noise impacts from military sonar and seismic testing.
I can't thank you enough for your unwavering support and energy, and your undeniable love for whales. The whales won the day at the IWC, but Japan still plans to hunt 50 humpbacks, 50 fin whales, and 935 minkes in the Southern Ocean at the end of this year. I hope I can count on you again, as we work toward putting an end to whaling once and for all.
Your friend,

Karen Sack Whales Campaigner
