Hi I'm Matt.
I apologise if this group is not the right forum for this post but I
shall continue anyway.
I live in Hilfields in Coventry and would quite like to have a go at
some target shooting but I'm unfamiliar with clubs available in my
area. I wonder if anybody can offer me some advice as to getting
started and findings a club?
Any information you can offer would be most appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.
MATT

I think you'll find most shooters will attack their grips with files &
hacksaws & then slap on plastic padding.
It may not look pretty but it works & the gun's for shooting, not
display.

Have a look at the website. The dates are in the 'programme'. I think
there's one at the end of the month (31/5/08)
Strictly speaking we're a 'regional squad' not a club so not exactly
set up to deal with beginners, but we do have a kind of 'development
squad' to help (relatively) new shooters
Greetings one and all,
i am a new member,
i shoot 10m pistol, i have a brno tau 7
and also a weihrauch 98 wich i use for field target
i look forward to discussing shooting with you all
regards
AL
Hey guys,
Just to pass the word...there is a new site out right now for the UK
sports world. It's a social networks for sports with a special
shooting area. There are already other shooters registered. Just
check it out, trying to make friends with people who share my sport.
Cheers, Andy

Hi
My name is Jim Hallam. I am a retired Schoolmaster and now
supplement my pension as an RFD, specialising older firearms. I am
Chairman of the South London RC (founded 1874) and a VP of the NRA
and HBSA. For 20 years or so I wrote the rules for "Historic
Shooting" for the NPA, HBSA and NRA and NSRA; I started all of the
major Bisley Open Meetings for "Historic Arms".
I normally put an advert in "The Rifleman" but this issue is delayed
(Brian Woodall got flooded out, unfortunately), so I am taking the
liberty of e-mailing you directly.
THIS COMING WEEKEND is the "SMRC Meeting" -- the Historic arms part
of the NSRA August Meeting. Apart from the obvious .22 Target rifle
matches it also includes Matches for Sporting rifle, military
trainer, Rook & Rabbit and Schutzen. UNUSUAL for an NSRA Meeting,
Centrefire Gallery Rifles are eligible -- assuming that they fall
within the timelined periods.
Since I started the SMRC Meeting 10 years or so ago, I have
(a) been there to lend rifles (f.o.c.) to people to try the
Prone and Standing Courses;
(b) given a .22rf lightweight rifle as a PRIZE for the Historic
Events -- every entry gets a free ticket;
(c) been there for Clubs etc., to bring their unwanted /
outdated rifles, sights, 'scopes and equipment which they want to
sell.
I will be at the "SMRC Caravan" at the LH end of the Century firing-
point on the 11th & 12th.
My gunroom is now established 250yards from the NSRA "Lord Roberts
Centre" -- at #6 Brunswick Drive, Brookwood, GU24 0NR
01483 472718 or 0775 369 7888.
I am a specialist in Collectors' Firearms, especially pistols (I
have full Section 5 authority, including MGs) and single-shot
rifles. i am pleased to assist in any way that i can, especially
with regard to deceased estates and items which have "appeared" (!)
Come down to the Meeting this weekend and have a chat.
Thanks for your forbearance
Jim Hallam
(BTW, if your Club needs facilities at Bisley, the SLRC may be able
to assist: with the cost of target hire some Clubs no longer shoot
their Full-Bore TR Championships, so some of them now "piggy-back"
with ours in October.)
Well, they're not exactly free :-) .....................
The NSRA have all three of the current models available & should
carry them in stock.
However some of the larger gun dealers will carry probably one of
the options, depending on whether they have a dealership for Morini,
Pardini or the SAM.
You just need the money & an appropriate variation on your FAC.
Which FAC club do you belong to?

23 Tips to Making Windows XP Start 60% Faster
http://thinktarget.net
Whenever you start your computer, you are faced with a few moments of
thumb twiddling while Windows XP boots and prompts you to log on.
Although you should expect to wait for a few moments, sometimes
Windows XP seems to boot rather slowly. In fact, you may notice that
over a period of time the PC that used to roar to life seems a bit
sluggish instead. Fortunately, you can perform several techniques that
help Windows XP get the bootup speed you want. This chapter explores
how to put these techniques to work.

Hi there all,
I have just joined this group and would like to share with you all, my
experience of this new target I bought from ebay. Its a different
design to most others and I have my own shooting range in my field, so
I am always looking for new targets to shoot at. I spotted this and
thought I would try it out and to be honest I am very pleased with
it. If you are into this sort of thing I would recommend it to
anyone. its called the six in one and you can see it here....

Trevor Haynes (WMRTSS manager) sent out an email today (3/9/06)which
reads
"Last night Jean Coleman called to say Ken died on Tuesday , whilst
in residential care. He had suffered strokes and had dementia.
Ken was a leading light in pistol shooting in Warwickshire and the
West Midlands. A former ELEY employee he was a good shot in club,
air and free pistol, and a leading member of Kynoch and the county
pistol team.
He came to prominance with pistol and rifle with the ELEY
Supershoots and laterly the ELEY postal competitions. He was always
present at the ELEY caravan, for whom he handled publicity.
He was a county pistol coach and a founder coach of the WM Pistol
Squad., retiring for health reasons two years ago. He was an
inspirational, innovative and committed coach, never too busy to
lend an ear or provide support.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral is on 15 Sep 1400 in Sutton Coldfield. I will attend.
Yours in sport
Trevor"
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful name too!

This sounds good Nigel, but im not sure they will ban trousers of yet
as how about the back support arguement, trousers are an added extra
and i dont always train with them but they are a life saver for long
eriods of time on the range and in my case stops me from being
crippled due to back pain periodically.
I have a lidls down the road from me so will take a look when they
have them in.
Thanks for the haesd up and nice to see someone else in here!

The Aldi supermarket chain is selling a wheeled holdall (wheels at one
end, extending handle at the other) for £9.99.
That should help take the strain until they DO get around to banning
all the extra kit/trousers etc :-)

Thanks for a great competition and the chance to compete again after a
few years, was nice to help out and compete in a freindly group of
people.
I hope that we can do this again next year!

Further to my earlier email, my MP Michael Fabricant, has now had a
reply from The Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP of the Home Office.
Quote:-
"Dear M
Thank you for your letter of April 26 about target pistol shooting
in the Olympic Games.
The Firearms (Amendment) Acts of 1997 were not intended as measures
to control the use of handguns in crime. They were intended to
ensure, as far as is possible, that the events of March 13 1996 at
Dunblane Primary School, when a legally held pistol was used to
shoot dead sixteen children & a teacher , would never be allowed to
happen again.
It is worth noting that mass shootings such as that at Dunblane are
rarely carried out using legally held weapons. Since 1997 there
have been a number of mass shootings in schools and workplaces both
in the United States & Continental Europe. In every case the weapon
was legally held.
The Government understood that the introduction of the 1997 Acts
would end competitive target pistol shooting in this country.
However during the passage of the legislation through Parliament we
made a commitment to consider favourably any request to allow target
pistol shooting events at major, multi event international games
hosted by a British City. The Secretary of State has powers which
allow this & he exercised those powers during the recent
Commonwealth Games hosted by Manchester.
The pistols were brought into the country shortly before the Games
opened through a single designated port of entry, where they were
placed in safe storage. They were transported to the venue by
secure authorised carrier & placed in a secure armoury. They were
let out of the armoury only for the necessary practice &
competition. At no time was any pistol allowed off site. At the
end of the Games, the pistols were taken out of the country the same
way they arrived. British competitors were subject to the same
regime as those from other countries.
The system worked well & it is anticipated that similar arrangements
will be made for the Olympic Games to be held in London in 2012.
There is no immediate prospect of any relaxation or dilution of the
handgun ban to allow British competitors to train in this country
with their pistols.
Hazel Blears MP."
End quote.
This posting is provided for your attention & consideration without
comment. I'm not making any comments at the moment. I'm too busy
repeatedly counting to ten.

Just had a reply from my MP, Michael Fabricant, to say that he agrees
& is also taking the matter up with Home Office Minister Hazel Blears.

All,
We recently sent details of the above, requesting that you ask
your local M.P. to sign it.
We are pleased to say that so far, 76 M.Ps have signed but we
understand that the Motion requires a minimum of 150-225 for it to
get anywhere.
We say a big thank you to all those who have taken the trouble
to contact their M.Ps but would ask you to go on to this Link:-
"http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?
EDMID=30407&SESSION=875
and check if they have actually signed it. If they have, it might
be a nice move to send a very short thank you note via
http://www.writetothem.com/ If not, send them a reminder at the
same address.
To those of you who have not yet made the approach, may we
please ask that you do so whilst there is still time to do it,
again using http://www.writetothem.com/
If you do not know who your local M.P. is, the the following
Link will help you find out:-
http://www.owos.info/how_you_can_help/contact_MP.php
All of the above Links are very easy to use.
This could be the first step to getting some our Sport back.
Best regards.
