Birkbeck's new Certificate in Community Leadership is for community
practitioners at the sharp end who want to understand better the
context in which they operate, to discuss common issues with
colleagues from other organizations, and to take a step back and
reflect on their work and its significance.
Community Leadership work in London includes a wide range of roles in
local strategic partnerships, neighbourhood renewal, New Deal for
Communities, voluntary community sector organizations, faith
communities, local authority officers working with local communities,
and the various partnerships which have been set up for urban
regeneration.
Birkbeck is London's largest provider of part-time adult and higher
education and lifelong learning in over 90 centres around greater
London. This new course links into that and is part of a growing
portfolio of courses designed to meet the needs of the voluntary and
community sector in London.
Thanks to European Social Funding, the summer 2005 presentation of the
first core unit or 'module' of the Certificate in Community Leadership
is free to suitable participants who can benefit from the course.
Those who complete this module only will be given the Certificate of
Achievement in Community Leadership. To achieve the full award
Certificate, participants must also complete the second core module
and one other option.
