Build UP
- is part of New Perspectives in construction for Small-medium employers.
- is a Pan London partnership initiative between public; private and voluntary sector organisations including:
- a London wide initiative to increase the technical skills and business opportunities within the conservation and restoration industry.
- addresses major in balances within in the construction sector by focusing on women, black and ethnic minority employees and owners of small building companies.
- aims to create diversity within the workforce by providing training in business and craft skills and establishing a small contractors consortium.
BUILD UP CRAFT SKILLS
- Building Crafts College and Lambeth College are offering two new levels of craft training in the areas of conservation, restoration and repair of buildings.
- The course is supported by the National heritage Training Group.
- The courses will be multi-skilled offered at levels 1 & 2, part-time over 15 weeks with evening and day options
Level 1 Foundation construction certificate.
- An introductory course for those with basic craft skills in either Carpentry & Joinery brickwork or Painting & Decorating.
Level 2
- This course is suited to those with NVQ level 2 or C & G equivalent or 5 years site experience.
- Progression to level 3 & 4 qualifications in Conservation site management
Build UP Business Skills
- The Build up Programme offers people a menu of training courses. Participants are able to increase their skills by selecting a range of options appropriate for their own Business development these include:
o Project management
o Financial management
o Legality & liability
o Time management
o Networking effectively
o Business start-up support
o Public procurement
o Contract negotiation
BUILD UP CONSORTIUM
Build UP provides the opportunity for sole traders and small building companies to:
o Join together with other contractors
o Tender for larger contracts
o Secure work within the conservation sector
Course Open evening Tuesday 26th April 2005 6-7.30 pm, at the Building Crafts College, Stratford.
There will be a course presentation, registration of participants, speakers from Conservation Industry and tour of college.
