There is a meeting at Tangmere this weekend to comemorate the pilots
and gunners who recently died including the late Great NEVILLE DUKE
DSO, OBE, DFC, AFC & CZECH CROSS
Who heroicly managed to land his plane carrying his wife while
suffering a brain hemmorage at Popham airfield. he later died after
collapsing just outside the aircraft.
Squadron Leader Duke would have been attending the event held by the
Tangmere aviation museum.
The developers are moving onto a hard attack to gain control of
The surviving remains of RAF Tangmere! what we can do is object to
planning office and also write to English Heritage to request
Scheduling of The Control Tower, Emergency Dispersal building and
the maintenance units as well as the Apron and Battle of Britain
Runway. I believe it is now more important than ever to ensure the
last few buildings of RAF T angmere , where Squadron Leader Duke was
based, should be saved as a token of our respect.
we have now managed to ensure the safety of the Barracks block which
is the last of its type surviving in tact, yet the others are still
in question.
Your written interest to English Heritage and Chichester Planning
office would help!
if anyone wants to do this and wishes to have help in this then I am
most happy to oblige! I have the contacts and some pre written
letters if needed.
All the best & "Keep your head in the clouds!"
