Hello Clive
Welcome to the forum.my name is Nick and about two months ago i found myself in
the same position as yourself, trying to find a group here in Sussex,i live in
Brighton. My connection with vintage aviation comes from my grandfather,he served
in the Fleet Air Arm until he retired. When we used to visit as kids we often
used to go to RNAS Yeovilton and explore in side the aircraft both active and in
the museum collection, kids paradise. Both of my sons seem to be catching the bug
as well.Unfortunatly it seems that the only active group in our area is the
Tangmere muesum group. However we do live in a very active bit of airspace
1939/45 and perhaps there are still discoverys to be made in this area.Only a
few weeks ago there was an article in an Uckfield paper regarding a crashed
Stirling{crash site is now a housing estate],and there are still several
reminders of our Battle of Britain defenses dotted around our country
side, perhaps, with research we might find a reason to start our
own Sussex group, until then, when Bob lets us know when he wants to search for
the Do17's in kent,i would be happy to give you a lift up to kent if you
like.once again welcome.Nick

No I'm not from Kent, I'm in Sussex.
There are probably loads of aircraft dotted around here but I need to find a way
into a local group. If there's anyone from this area on this forum I would be
very pleased to hear from you.
Dennis I would be most interested to view your digs, thanks.
Cheers,
Clive.

Subject: [Wreck Hunters forum] Joining the group.
Hi everyone,
As a person who has had aviation in my system for as long as I can
remember,I have always been interested in aircraft history and
archaeology.
Trouble is I never pursued this part of my interest.
Recently I discovered that there are no groups in my area (
Worthing, West Sussex ). they seem to be in Somerset or Headcorn,
Kent as my nearest.
Now as I look further I find this group.....Great !
My brief profile : In Air Training Corps as a boy.
Went to Dan- Air at Lasham as trainee airframes and engines mechanic.
From there did an appreticeship as carpenter and joiner.
On completing my time as apprentice, went back to Lasham working on
gliders and light aircraft.
Types worked on :
Avro York.
Ambassador.
Dakota.
Douglas DC7 B
Comet 4.
Jodel.
Falke motor glider.
Various gliders.
Been in the Fire Service for getting on for 30 yrs and retire in
Feb '07.( so will have time to dedicate ).
Along the way I've done some gliding, got my 'D' licence in
Skydiving, and last year finished building my own side by side 2
seater taildragger, which I now have about 40 hours on.
Been flying microlight aircraft of various types for about 8 years.
It's sad I know, but I can't leave aeroplanes alone !
Look forward to hearing from someone on the group.
Regards,
Clive.
