No problem Steve - if you come across any WYPTE pics (ie the fleet as it was between 1974 and 1986), feel free to upload them!

Paul - let me refer you to http://www.typg.org.uk/fate.xls - there you can see whether they are still taxed.  If they are then we have to play 'trace'!

509 (UWW 9X) was painted into this allover advertising livery for 'Goadsby & Harding' in March 1994.

Both were sold for further use on the Isle of Man in March 1996. Both later returned to the UK and entered service with Williams, Oadby, Leicestershire.

Steve,

Not quite with you, but the "Links" section is part of the package of a Yahoogroup. In here, people can post links to sites related to the WYPTE (and other bus related sites if they want).

In the "Photos" section I would like people to post pics of buses in WYPTE livery!

Today, Transport Yorkshire Preservation Group are pleased to announce they have saved another former Yorkshire Rider bus for preservation.

This is a 1987 Optare StarRider, based on the Mercedes 811D chassis.

This was acquired from Master Travel, Welwyn Garden City and is seen as various stages on it's way back to Yorkshire.

Joining the worlds' biggest collection of preserved Optare vehicles is 2004.

Its brothers are Freight Rover Sherpa 1705 (D705HUA), Leyland Cub 1807 (C807KBT) and Leyland Olympian 5507 (C507KBT).

Also in preservation (with a different group) is Volkswagen City Pacer 1700 (D901MWR).

Star Rider did a steady 50/55 up the motorway, behaved really well all the way.  Needs a bit of bodywork, although it is at the back of the queue really.
Pics to follow (we're tired now).

Cheers

Hi all, I have decided to change the setting to moderate all messages. This will now not be done and anyone can post and messages will appear straight away.

However, membership will still have to be approved/rejected. I have seen a number of groups fall foul of spammers and I do not want the WYPTE group to go down this route.

Please let your friends who are interested the the WYPTE know about this group.

I was never too keen on these vehicles when in service as they replaced my favourite WYPTE operated vehicles - the ex Bradford dual door 2401-2470 series.

However as time went on I became quite fond of them, and it is sad to see them all gone.

I do believe there are still a number in service in other parts of the country though. Would anyone like to have a stab at making a list?

5007 - UWW 7X has recently entered preservation!

Have any of the Olympians gone onto be driver training units?

I understand that there are no longer any former WYPTE Roe/Optare Olympians left in service with First West Yorkshire - is that right?

Which one was the last one to go?

I stopped subscribing to the Metro Transport News some time ago as I could not keep track of all the new fleet numbers!

Found a few links online which may be of use to others:

VOSA site:
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/hgvpsvdrivers/tachographsanddrivershours/eudriversho\
ursandtachographrulesforroadpassengervehiclesfaq.htm

Note that a tachograph is required (under EU rules) for any passenger vehicle
with 10 or more seats going on international journeys, except that for journeys
wholly within the UK tachographs are only required on vehicles with 18 or more
seats. It does recommend that a tacho is used as good practice though. Note
that where EU rules do not apply then the domestic rules do (linked from the
above).

Tachograph fitment exemption:

The Community Drivers' Hours and Recording Equipment (Exemptions and
Supplementary Provisions) (Amendment) Regulations 1988 (statutory instrument
1988 No 760) can be found at
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1988/Uksi_19880760_en_1.htm

As is probably well known, these regulations permit a vehicle more than 25 years
old, being used in connection with a rally or similar event, not carrying more
than 9 persons including the driver, and not used for profit, to be exempted
from the requirement to operate a tachograph, though not from the requirement to
comply with drivers' hours regulations.

Hope this is useful.

Regards

Hi Steve/James,

Thanks for posting the link to your photos in the Links section Steve
- no problems!

However, I'd rather the individual pics were not posted into the
photos section as most if not all of the vechicles shown did not
operate with the WYPTE.

If either of you guys (or anyone else for that matter) have got any
good pics of buses in WYPTE livery, please feel free to post them!

All the best

Cheers for this info guys.  The Teen Challenge group (Bridge Street Church in Leeds) sold this a couple of months ago to the group based in Bradford.

This information might enable someone to establish contact with them - if nothing else, I'd love to have a drive of a genuine WYPTE metrobus and help out a good cause.

Hi all,

Nice to see an internet group started for what is possibly the most
neglected PTE in preservation.

Together with two friends, our group owns (or is involved with) ten
preserved WYPTE buses - details on http://www.typg.org.uk

Anyone wanting to see some of the collection is warmly invited to
attend the Meadowhall event on Sun 10th September when maybe 3 WYPTE
vehicles will be in attendance... anyone who can't wait until then
can go to Crich today, tomorrow or Monday where the sexiest Bristol
LH in preservation is on a weekend away.

May I also draw peoples' attention to the 'fate' list at
http://www.typg.org.uk/fate.xls (MS Excel spreadsheet format) which
gives details of most WYPTE vehicles and their 'fate' - there are a
few coaches which have been re-registered of which details are not
known: 1401-1404, 1408, 1409, 1418, 1422-1424, 1505, 1508, 1513,
1514, 1516, 1524, 1601, 1602, 1609, 1611, 1612 & 1617-1620, and also
olympian 5072 (is/was Stagecoach 14278).

Cheers

Hi Simon,

I would like the group to be purely dedicated to WYPTE between 1st April 1974 and 26th October 1986 - buses in WYPTE livery basically.

There is a Yorkshire Rider Yahoogroup and also First Yahoogroups - I will post links to these in the links section.

We could widen it out to pre and post WYPTE later, but in the meantime I'd prefer just to see "verona green and buttermilk"!

Cheers!
Paul

Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting. To be honest I would rather keep the group strictly as WYPTE livery at the moment.

That said, have the vehicle pics you are thinking of posting ever operated for the WYPTE?

All the best
Paul
