Group Description

The Emirates Natural History Group (ENHG) aims to encourage and assist members and others in the study and appreciation of the natural history and archaeology of Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, the Middle East and the world at large.

The Group was founded in 1976, and is the oldest voluntary society dealing with environmental topics in the United Arab Emirates. It operates, as do younger sister groups in Al Ain and Dubai, under the patronage of the UAE Minister of Youth, Culture and Community Development, Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan.

The ENHG normally meets in a conference room - TBA for each meeting - at Park Hyatt Hotel (ENHG Gold Level Corporate Sponsor) on Saadiyat Island, at 7.30pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month (except during the summer recess months, July and August). A guest speaker is invited to each meeting, with talks covering a variety of topics (archaeology, desert ecology, flora/fauna of specific areas, etc). These meetings are open to both members and non-members of the ENHG. Members also have access to a regular programme of day and overnight field trips, usually led by experts, to areas of interest throughout the UAE.

Membership of the group is open to all at a cost of 100 Dhs/individual or 150 Dhs/family per activity season. Members can participate in the field trips and are added to the ENHG mailing list, receiving (annually) the group's scientific journal, TRIBULUS, and the monthly newsletter, Focus. Overseas members are also welcome.

The ENHG provides an active and progressive forum for experts and enthusiasts alike.

Messages will be posted at the discretion of the site moderators. Please restrict messages to enquiries/information specifically related to ENHG activities, e.g. meetings, field trips, the Group’s publications, and/or to topics specifically related to the archaeology, history and natural history of the UAE.
