All musicians of all abilities are welcome to come along, join in the session, and chat about all things musical. Anyone who is thinking of playing either bagpipes or the hurdy-gurdy...

  • Henry, Not within easy reach of you (Shropshire), but welcome to the forum, and don't be afraid to ask any questions however stupid they sound. Everyone on here has been at that starting point, and it is a sizeable step buying an instrument that is never mass-produced and can therefore only be expensive in terms of other instruments. It is worth noting that there are bad hurdy...

  • I am also in Shropshire (although away this week). You may be interested in the annual bagpipe and hurdy-gurdy day on the second Saturday in November. It is at the Red Lion in Market Drayton in Shropshire. We get lots of experienced h-g players there every year, and you can pick up lots of tips on maintenance, tuning etc. GeoffTurner Sent from my iPhone On 24 Aug 2015, at 12:58...

  • Martin, It's a long time since you came over to Youlgreave. You'll have to arrange another visit... I tried to see if I could get interest for a drone fest with gurdy players and bagpipers but there didn’t seem to be enough interest. Fingers crossed that it will...

  • Gill, In case you are not aware, there is a gathering of drone musicians in Market Drayton in Shropshire on Saturday, for an afternoon session. There will be some very experienced hurdy-gurdy players present, and would be a chance to see if your problem can be easily corrected. Search "bagpipe and hurdy gurdy day 2014" on Facebook, or reply for more details. Regards Geoff On 4 Nov...
