Group Description

An online community of rooftop solar households that exchange experiences, ideas, and news about solar generation optimisation, usage optimisation, etc.

To contact us, see 'Resources' panel at bottom right.

600-odd Southend households now have Solar PV. Our rooftop Solar power stations supply to our various neighbourhoods, mostly in summer daytimes, about 2,000MWh/year of peaktime electricity, in addition to using a similar amount in our own homes.

Whether used in our own households or put into the grid for our neighbours' use, each kW that we generate displaces gas that would otherwise need to be extracted, delivered to the Coryton gas power station, inefficiently burned and transmitted to Southend.

Nationally, there are about half-a-million of us so far with these rooftop micro power stations. In summertime, our combined peaktime electricity does help to limit wholesale electricity prices for everyone else too.

July 2013 saw a UK Daily Record 6% of the nations daytime electricity being generated from Solar power!
