      Hi
TV repair shop soldered wire about 2ft long to battery connections I then
soldered/connected 2off battery holders (from Maplin) each of which holds 2
x 1.5 v cells. The battery holders can be threaded through the dash to the
console area. I now have no batteries in my instrument panel. Make sure you
      put the batteries right polarity!
My tach does occasionally go wobbly, not sure exactly why, maybe batteries
      need charging.

No idea about coil for tacho etc.
