      The Bentley manual doesn't say much...

      "Inspect the fan clutch by spinning the fan with the
      engine off [sic] and cold. The fan should spin on the
      clutch with slight resistance. Check for signs of oil
      leaking from the clutch. If the fan cannot be turned
      by hand or if there are signs of oil leakage, the
      clutch is faulty and should be replaced."

      That's it!

      Note: fan clutches should be stored vertical; not
      horizontally.

      The Haynes manual holds a clue:

      "With the engine completely warmed up, turn off the
      ignition switch and disconnect the [battery]. Turn
      the fan by hand. Heavier resistance should be
      evident. If the fan turns easily, replace the fan
      clutch."
