check all the ball joints, there are 10 of them all told, 4 on the tie rods,
4 on the control arms and 2 on the center link, a little play in a couple
adds up. Also check the upper control arm bushings

Subject: [bmw e28] steering shakes but not balancing?

Help please - I've got an '86 520auto. When driving at
55/60mph i get steering wheel shake exactly as if the
wheels weren't balanced and although i have had them
balanced by two separate garages, it still remains.
Any ideas? One wag at the garage said "don't drive at
55/60", but i'm sure that's not the only solution! The
alloys are 14" and in great condition, any ideas???
