Hmmm The idea is good but you might have to go to a more specialized store. Maybe it is not a national policy but I know in New England best buy will not do

Maybe it is not a national policy but I know in New England best buy will
not do any work on BMWs at all. Plus when I talked to them once they really
were not trained for them and did not have the stuff they would need or
          insurance coverage.

Just double check if they can work on BMWs in your area.

I had this trouble before. If you have the owner's manual with you,
there should be a code in the back of the book. The numbers should
not exceed the numeral 5 because you use the preset numbers to enter
the code. Once that is done, leave your radio on for an hour or so
and it should be fine. If not then take it to a BMW specialist. It
cost 70 bucks to get rid of that but you can save if you have your
            code.

I had to remove my 86 BMW radio and take it up to BMW dealership. They want the serial number on the back of the radio. Got my code the next day. Jerry 88

had the same thing happen to me. old 325 i. look in
your service manual, or if you can't find it they do
keep track of the factory radio's that is if it's one
installed by bmw. i just phoned my mechanic and gacve
him the vin #. but check yor service manual and it
will tell you what to do.
