  • Hi, Have you considered buying a transit permit from the state of PA? This should get you to the border, where you can get the Ontario trip permit for the final voyage. I don't know what sort of car is in question, but I did this in August importing a 78 530i on the west coast.... Also did you contact US Customs regarding exporting the vehicle from the US - I believe 24 or 48 hours...

  • Hi, Rust repair is extremely expensive, and for a regular e28 528i or 535i, I would say paying for it is not worth it. If you want the car just for running about, go for it (as long as the rust is not so bad that there are holes in the floor! ie the structural integrity of the frame is compromised) BUT do not even think about fixing it. It would be much cheaper to find a rust free...

  • With my Canadian 86 535i - almost all of the not too serious rust is located where undercoat/weatherproofing had been torn away or damaged (ie rusting from outside in, not inside out) - the one exception is my front PS fender - which was a replacement some time well before I owned her - and there is a nastly looking pocket of rust along the seam - I hate to think of what's growing...

  • Hi all, How big of a deal is it to replace a dashboard - ie remove a cracked one with an uncracked one. Take Care, Chris 86 535i [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

  • Hi Blake, The asking price is around 2200 USD obo ----- Original Message ----- From: Blake Nancarrow To: 'bmwe28@^$1' Sent: Sunday, March 13, 2005 10:11 PM Subject: RE: [bmw e28] Buying e28 Odometer Question... • I was looking at an 87 535i but the odometer is busted (its at 193,000 Miles) - he says it broke last month or so and the milage is more like 195,000. Would most of you just totally stay away from such a car with broken Odometer (it seems that more and more I come across have this problem), or would you consider it if it came with 'supporting paperwork'. Also, is 195,000 miles...

  • Thanks - the thing is, the mystery noise is loudest when one takes the foot off the gas and coasts - and so far I've noticed no connection between braking and the noise - I don't know how this symptom fits in with the brake idea... • Hi, Thanks for this - the problem is as still unresolved. The oddest thing is, it vanishes completely at times, but every so often returns, and it can be extremely loud or barely audible, so its proving hard ti pin down. Hmmmm.... • Hi, Thanks for the comments, and it at this point it seems your right - not a cv joint issue. Wish me luck on this one - the jury's still out! • Hi, I have an 86 535i, and other other day it developed quite a loud rattle towards the rear - more of a metal on metal grind or knock noise that gets significantly louder when I take the foot off the gas and coast. I'm pretty sure its nothing to do with the wheels, nor anything knocking like a loose exhaust, and one guess is the CV joint. The odd thing is that it was quite loud...
