  • Hi John, Great idea to find out about each others beemers. Mine is an '84 528i Auto alpine white. She has been with me for two years. In that time I've had a new complete cylinder head/camshaft fitted, 16 inch multiblade alloys with Avon ZZR tyres and a retrim in pacific blue leather. She is my only car and I average 5,000 miles a year, her total mileage is now 122,000 miles. The...

  • Hi Ray, Door handles in chrome as far as I know are a straight fit from the earlier E12 5 series, can't help with the other parts. Good luck with your search. Gary Edmonds. --- raylamela wrote: --------------------------------- I wanted to add some chrome to my 528e having difficulty finding these items: door handles chrome side mirrors like the ones on the older models Chrome rear...

  • Hi guys, Last month I wrote about my Braking problems, the general advice was to replace the accumulator. I have replaced the accumulator, the regulator and switches, the braking system was then bled through. I still have a hard pedal and the pressure warning light blinks at me when I touch the brakes. If I remove the top from the power steering reservior and pump the brakes the...

  • Hi guys, Earlier this month I posted a question regarding the brake warning light on my e28. The advice was to replace the brake accumulator, I have managed to track one down in the UK....not easy! My question is this, has anyone changed one of these and if so, can you advise me how to please? If any guys in the UK are interested I can highly recommend KMS, very helpful and good...

  • Thanks for replying guys, Had an inspection 2 completed last year 7,000 miles ago brake and power steering fluid both changed for fresh, not sure the brakes have been bled, should they have been at the time the fluid was renewed? Would air in the system account for both the intial lack of braking and the warning light? Thanks for your time again guys. Gary. '84 528i auto. --- Blake...

  • Hi guys, I have an '84 528i, recently the brake warning light has appeared. It's the symbol next to the park/handbrake warning light. According to the owners manual it suggests a problem with the split circuit system, hinting at a malfunction with either the braking or power steering systems. When driving after a few miles the light appears, if you turn the steering wheel or brake...

  • Hi guys, I live in the UK and own a 528i auto from '84. She is a good car that I enjoy driving, with 119k miles under her wheels, however in my own bit of stupidity I over- reved the engine momentarily in first gear hold. The car now idles lumpy and pulls away sounding rough, under load she is ok I think! The car after a compression test is down to only about 30% power on No:1...

  • Re the above problem, my 528i has developed a fault. The heater works well for the first 20-30 minutes only and then just blows out cold air for the next 20 -30 minutes. If I fiddle with the temp control wheel from hot to cold and leave it on cold for approx. 10 minutes the hot air then returns when the desired temperature is selected. Fellow member Steve Haygood gave advice...

  • Hi Ben, I don't if you can help but I am after the following for my 528i; Rear bumper and rubber trim, offside rear lamp unit. Not shadowline. Must be in mint/excellent condition to replace mine. How much do you want for the BMW 3 spoke sport steering wheel? Let me know if you can help, Cheers Gary. --- Ben Broke-Smith wrote: --------------------------------- Hi guys! Not really...

  • Hi Ian, If you are from the UK then yes you have bought an e28. 1987 makes it a late model, the 528i being available throughout the e28 lifespan. The model that replaced the e28 was known as the e34 and the 2.8 was not made in this body shape. you can tell the differences by a more modern exterior and interior; easy tip e28 exhaust systems exit the centre of the bodywork, where as...
