  • I have a 1988 BMW 528e that I am comtemplating selling here soon. I can't seem to figure out what I can get for it on any of the blue book sites (they only go back to 1990). Looking for some opinions, I think I can get around $3,000 for it but I may be off some. specifics: 1988 528e - 189,000 original miles; 26-30 mpg - all original body (paint, interior, glass, wheels, engine etc...

  • Hi, I have a 1988 528e which I have installed an "i" camshaft and valve springs in along with a computer out of a newer 525i. During the colder months it ran great but this summer it has had some detonation issues (spark knock whatever you want to call it) that starts at about 3000 rpms. Even with 92/93 octane fuel it will do it but that does help some. I am looking for some...

The key now goes front to back making a clicking sound and does not lock/unlock doors anymore. The central locking 'system' still funcitons from the trunk or pass door. Any one else experience this? Anyone know what am I...

  • I would almost bet it is the upper strut bearing. I had a clunking in my front-end for sometime and thought it was my wheel bearing because my tierods, thrust arms etc. were in good shape too. Then I upgraded my shocks and springs. When I pulled the strut assembly apart, the bearings were very obviously worn and had lots of play in them. I replaced them and the sound went away...

  • I am contemplating upgrading to 16 or 17" rims on my '88 528e. I have lowered the car about 1.25" with H&R Springs/Bilstein HDs so I was wondering if anyone knew what tire size and rim width would fit the car and what offset I need. Thanks! mort
