  • My 1986 528e just goes dead. The engine dies and all the lights come in on the panel - ABS light and a few others. I replaced the in-tank fuel pump since I thought I was getting vapor lock. I am running on the penny drilled with a hole instead of the Idle Control Valve (ICV) so that is unhooked. All else though seems fine. Could a fried ICM be doing this to a running engine? I...

  • My 528e is totally stock. No aftermarket stereo's or alarms. I have owned her since new. In the last five months, the battery drain has gone off the charts. I guess I need to do the voltmeter drill and start pulling fuses. I forget which side to interrupt between the battery and the car - the positive or the negative. Any ideas from the group on where to start?

  • I think that the ABS light has something to do with the Alternator. It comes on when you have a power problem. Mine came on in the 528e when the alternator failed, and in the 535i when I had a new Sears Diehard put in and the guy failed to hook back a wire to the charging system. I jope this helps. • Steve, my four cars below: please recommend - pad/rotor combo and give me pricing shipped to 91730, no rush, but I would like your input and maybe you could save me some money. I did Balo rotors and two different brands of pads for my convertible below, I have been happy with the braking performance. I do get some dust though. Thanks. • I think to use anything other than OEM pads is really bad, will warp the rotors, and just not worth a few extra miles, and will not stop as well. My second set of pads on my 528e were installed by BMW of Riverside as the "harder" pads, less dust and more miles. They warped my rotors and braking performance suffered. BMW pads and rotors are a deal, but Balo makes a great rotor...

  • Any thoughts on fuse number 5, 8 amp, will not stay in the box. What would cause this to happen. My thoughts are that maybe the stereo wires are shorting out or something? thanks! Ron Kall Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730 1986 528e 1985 535i ----- [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

  • Doug, Thanks for the tip on the slave. I was away when mine failed. My son called a local shop, and for $1,300.00 or so I had a new master, new slave, and something else done. I figured I could have bought the parts for less than $200.00. I was pretty bummed, but could not get back to town to manage the repair myself. take care, --- doug dykaar wrote: > Ron, > > The slave kit was...

  • Doug, Is not the clutch slave a $30.00 part? Why would you want to rebuild it/ take care, --- dave ruiz wrote: > Doug, I work on BMWs and Porsches as well as other stuff. • There are posts on the net on how to: use a vega pump for the in-tank fuel pump replacement. I did mine for less than $30.00. That included a new pump, screen mesh thing, tie wrapped to my old frame. I did it on my 1986 528e about 3 years and 50k miles ago. good luck! --- bimmernutjob wrote: > Oh, I almost forgot. • They say that you should use fuel injection hoses, or the ones from the stealer. Kragen et al will sell you a four pack for under $2.00 I think. --- bimmernutjob wrote: > yeah, I dont know what the deal is on parts providers ?
