Group Description

Colchester Rifle Club is a target shooting club of more than a hundred years standing. It is a successful, active and friendly club with its own clubhouse and ranges set in woodland on the Southern outskirts of Colchester town. Colchester was originally the Roman town of "Camulodvnum", now largely accepted as being the oldest town in England.

The club has facilities for shooting a number of disciplines, including small-bore rifle at 20mtrs and 25yds indoors, 50 mtrs and 100 yards outdoors. The indoor range also has a 10 mtr. air-rifle and pistol range. Additionally, there is an active gallery-rifle section with specific range allotment.
We are affiliated to the N.S.R.A. (National Small-bore Rifle Association).

The club has a full-bore rifle section too - affiliated to the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association), and in addition to our being able to book range space at Bisley, we are in the fortunate position to be able to shoot on either of two military ranges that are part of Colchester Garrison and offer distances between 100 and 600 yards.

The club has members who are qualified coaches, and range conducting officers for both small and full-bore target shooting. Young and aspiring target shooters are particularly encouraged, and, as an illustration, the club boasts as a member one of the most successful of young ladies currently shooting small-bore rifle in the country. A significant number of both our small-bore and full-bore rifle members shoot at County (Essex) and National level, with a smattering of Internationals to boot. The club has, over the years, spawned both Bisley Grand Aggregate and Lord Roberts Trophy winners.
