Group Description

We are by far the biggest and longest established yahoo group dedicated to the Leyland Olympian, please post any item of interest to followers of Leyland or Volvo Olympians. We are especially interested in hearing from those dedicated people who have preserved Leyland or Volvo Olympians for us to enjoy in the future, we hold a database in our "files" section detailing each preserved Olympian and any news or reports on this subject are very welcome.
The B45 was developed by Leyland Bus in 1979 as a replacement for elderly types and to meet the demands of operators who didn't want the integral Leyland Titan but needed a more modern design suitable for the 1980's. 9 of the prototype B45's were built and the production model was christened "Olympian"- Leyland produced over 4,800 Olympians before a change of ownership saw some design changes and the introduction of the Volvo Olympian in 1992 of which over 5,400 were produced. A wide selection of engine and body types made the Olympian a bus with variety, from the standard ECW bodied, Gardner engined bus purchased in huge numbers by the NBC fleets through to the Alexander and Northern Counties bodies common later in Olympian production. The Olympian became a huge export success being supplied in large numbers to Dublin, Hong Kong and Singapore.
