  • One thing I forgot to mention is that at 14yrs old my Cavalier is not on ANY traditional heart medications except Amlodipine for blood pressure, just supplements and herbs. We also have recently taken her off Lasix which is quite remarkable. Btw, She hasn't been vaccinated in over five years. Have a conversation about vaccinations with the holistic vet. Please lets us know how it...

  • Wow, That's a loaded question! I've taken my KC to at least four different alternative / holistic veterinary doctors and they all practice different combinations of complementary medicine ranging from acupuncture, Chinese and Western herbs, supplements and homeopathy. Holistic medicine focuses on improving the immune systems response to disease rather than suppressing or managing...

  • As in my original post, it happened twice in a two month period to my 14yr old KC. The symptoms were slightly different both times. The first time our holistic vet extracted some very decayed teeth (while she was awake) and sent us home with homeopathic ear drops, the second time I gave her Rescue Remedy and she was better in the morning. Very scary but total recovery. Idiopathic...

  • Thank you Rod, excellent article on vestibular! I'm will try the maneuvering techniques if this happens again. Is there anything on Cavaliers with chronic sinus infections that may be related?

  • @Jane-From what I have read there is a condition called peripheral vestibular or idiopathic vestibular disease meaning from an unknown cause, it can take anywhere from 24 - 72 hrs or longer to resolve and is common in older dogs but there are other types of vestibular disease that take much longer and require care. I found this video on the subject. http://healthypets.mercola.com...

  • Mary, That is exactly whats happening, the doctor prescribed ear drops a couple of months ago because he suspected an ear infection stemming from her teeth which are in really bad shape no matter what I do. Not only is she back to normal after about 24hr but she seems better than before the episode specifically her energy level and stability. The first time I rushed her to the...

  • This may also be related to Cheryl's post on Degenerative Myleopathy because it also matches the symptoms but wanted to run it by the group in case anyone has experienced the same. My KC is going on 14yrs in August. I currently have her on 10 Mg Lasix twice per day in addition to a significant number of herbs and supplements all approved by our holistic vet. No other heart Meds...

  • I've been using a combination of Over-The-Counter natural products depending on the time of day and type of cough.. The most effective and probably safest is a homeopathic honey based cough syrup called Chestal by Boiron, just 1Tsp given as needed, best first thing in the morning and before bed. I have also use Loquat Honey Syrup this is a Chinese formula know as Nin Jiom Pea Pa...

  • I recommend Standard Process Supplements such as Canine Flex and Musculoskeletal Support. There is also a Chinese Formula by Kan Essentials called Xiao Chai Hu Qia Jiao - Hips and Knees Formula.. If he slips on smooth surfaces try "Paw Grip" Wax or "Toe Grips" and keep paws pads trimmed. On Wed, Jun 14, 2017 at 8:35 AM, ' Judithwm@^$1 ' judithwm@^$2 [MVDincavaliers...

  • I have three suggestions all of which I've used over the years but I strongly recommend, do your own research and ask your veterinarian. 1) Melatonin, 2)Rescue remedy, 3)OTC Veterinary CBD Oil from Cannabis.
