  • > Your attachment has not appeared. > The attachments have come through fine with the email Thanks for that. That is very strange, and now that you mention it I think we have found it previously. Attachments come through when posts are forwarded by email, but they don't appear on the site itself! And I can't find any way to make them visible there. Oliver

  • Tony, Your attachment has not appeared. I have not been able to debug the reason, but it seems that even though the controls are set to permit attachments, in fact they never work. Even I, as the senior Moderator and with all the site privileges, cannot post with attachments; and I have been unable to correct this problem. This is even though there are other Yahoo Groups on which...

  • Martin, Don't worry about your English language skills; they are vastly better than my non-existent German language skills! You are very welcome. I will try to get photos and measurements of my outboard well within the next few days. However there are both advantages and disadvantages to having the outboard in a well. Before you go to a lot of trouble, decide which route is the...

  • Congratulations on your new acquisition. I will update the Boat Register for the change of owner, but I see that there are also a lot of blanks in the information for Celena. Perhaps at your convenience you could supply the missing data. Files > Privateer Boat Register.xlsx Oliver

  • > Arne has spent a lot of time figuring out how to reach her full potensial of speed . Encreasing the distance between jib sails and center-veight-point, by a longer jib-beam. See the photo, already on this site, of Tern, which has a redesigned gaff cutter rig by the well known British (East Coast) designer and builder Fabian Bush. That also has a longer bowsprit. https://uk.groups...

  • It is high time we changed the home page photo and the top cover photo, and I have just tried to do so. The top cover photo is fine, but the letterbox format limits the photos which we can use for that. The Home page photo is more conventional, and I have tried repeatedly this evening to switch to one of the superb photos from the Mary Ann II album, the boat owned by our German...

  • For anyone else who has not looked recently, there is also a photo of a rather nice painting of Beau Vista under sail. Worth a look. Oliver

  • Carola, I have just looked at your photos, and I must congratulate you on having acquired a particularly good looking boat. Much of that appears to be the result of your own work, of course. And I admire you for sailing such a small boat with a dog, and particularly that breed; I am a dog lover myself, but when my last dog died I took the deliberate decision not to replace, very...

  • Jonathan, Thanks for that idea. My drum is open sided but with a guide close to the drum, as is the Barton drum on the staysail, and that latter is no trouble at all. My experience with an enclosed drum on a GP14 is that it does not prevent the line coming off the drum and it very occasionally does so; but when that happens it is very much more difficult to sort it out. I am...

  • I share these experiences in the hope that it may help others who have the same equipment, and also that someone else may have found a solution to the problem. The jib on my Privateer 20 is fitted with the Holt Allen Reefing & Furling System for boats under 18-ft, which I gather is also known as the Holt Minireef. This came with the boat when I bought her, and by and large works...
