  • Hi Possible source of square vents on eBay UK. Not sure how water proof they are. • Hi William Just had a look at the photos you posted. She looks clean and tidy for a 42 year old. I'm half way through my restoration and just finishing off the electrics. I've managed to fit (just) a low height (190mm) 100ah battery in the locker under the cabin sole along with the isolation switch. I've placed a 12v six switch fuse / switch panel under the side combing (above the...

  • Hi John As my boat is kept on a trailer, there's no need for anti foul paint. Instead, I was thinking of using International Perfection but at nearly £60 a litre, I started looking around at other similar products. I came across this post and thought I'd try it. http://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat-repair-and-restoration/boat-restoration-building-and-hull-repair/558645-rustoleum...

  • Am about to replace mine as well. Looked at rubber and timber but have decided to go with 2" hemp rope with a wire strop inside the strands. The wire has eyes spliced in the ends and is tentioned at each end. All fixings are hidden by the rope. Buying it from a Narrow Boat chandler. Works out a lot cheaper and looks authentic. Just a thought. Tony Sent from my Samsung Galaxy...

  • Hi Jonathan. I'm getting my boat ready for inspection by the Boat Safety Scheme chaps. I was planning have spare fuel and an LPG canister in the lazerette. However, this is not allowed with BSS as petrol and gas vapours are heavier than air so the locker would need a drain hole in the very bottom (undetwater in my case!). Perhaps a sealed false floor with a drain above waterline...

  • Hi Tony With experience of larger yachts sailing offshore, the rule was to have access to all parts of the hull from the inside. One story I heard was a chap anchored up, expecting to dry out on a mud bottom, ended up landing on an old groin spike. As the boat settled, the spike penetrated the hull. The hull filled with some water as the remaining tide ebbed. Once down, he pumped...

  • Hi Tony I've been looking into fitting new electrics to my Privateer. As I need to get a new outboard, I thought I'd get one with a coil to charge the battery. The extra cost is minimal, if anything. However, it seems that the advertised wattage output is only achieved at or near maximum revs. I may still go for a coil version outboard for backup but a pair of modern solar panels...

  • Hi Tony Good to hear your moving ahead. I'm trying to do a little every day, weather allowing. I've sorted out the rigging and am waiting for a warm day to paint the hull. Meanwhile, I too am looking at the inside. I've decided to lay a bit more fibreglass below the cabin sole to strengthen her a bit. I'll also lay some pig iron in there as well to give a little more stability. I'd...
