Group Description

Discussion & information on building a reproduction WWII S.I.S. Whaddon MkIII transmitter, "The Tinker Box". Originally built by Sec.VIII of MI6 in workshops at Little Horwood and/or Whaddon Hall. Used at Station X and in various outstations throughout Europe and beyond.

It is the goal here to enable one to build an adequate working replica. There are no exact instructions and each unit will be a tad different from the next, much as it was 70+ years ago.

In addition, one of our group has taken it upon himself to build the later version MkIII with a separate power supply. So now the possibility exists to build either style of MkIII.

The MkIII is an ideal companion to go with your National HRO SR.,M,5 etc. should you have one and was actually the working station setup where the MkIII was used.

For Bob Hornby, Wilf Lilburn, Geoffrey Pidgeon, David White & countless others.

This is one of the transmitters written about in "The Secret Wireless War" by Geoffrey Pidgeon, 2003 and of which David White's MkIII is on display at Bletchly Park.

Thank you to "Militaryoperator" for the use of his pictures also.
